We used the recommended installers out of Hicksville and have had a few issues with them (even still, over a month later). I am not sure who would design with their program as I designed ours and tweaked endlessly. The program has some quirks, but it was an invaluable tool in laying out and experiencing it virtually. I loved being able to walk around the space on the monitor as it gave an entirely different perspective than the flat versions.
You may want to try laying out the space and posting plans here. There are some true layout gurus in this forum who can give wonderful food for thought.
Also, if you find an adept employee, you could always ask if they moonlight on the side....

layout is layout, and has nothing to do with company X or Y.
get a layout that you like.
then, step two is to fit that layout into the products offered by ikea and fill in the one gap left over with something else.

We tried out the design company which was recommended by our ikea, and it was a disaster. They were out here 3 times and still had incorrect measurements.... I mean more than a foot off!

I buckled down and used the ikea design software. It definitely can be tricky to use, but like dianalo said- being able to virtually zoom in and around the kitchen is so valuable!

And the great thing is, once you lay it all out, you press a button and the software gives you a list of every single part you will need to order, as well as your total price. You just print it out and give the list to the good people at ikea.

Try it out, and post what you do! The members here are incredibly creative and talented. They will help you through your rough spots- I wish I had found this forum when I was in my design phase!
