changing interior door style

After years of lurking, and benefitting vicariously from all the great minds on this site, I am in need of some direct help.
We are renovating a 1980's ski condo - lots of oak trim, gluelam beams, huge stone fireplace, and oak cabinets. It is in need of an overall update, nothing has been touched since 1982. We are thinking sort of mountain contemporary for the overall plan (more clean, simple lines, dark wood floors, darker trim). Our first project has been redoing a 5x8 bathroom and adding a 5x5 powder room (just in drywall stage now). The powder room will have black slate floors, pedestal sink, cole and sons woods wallpaper. The other bath is going to be for my elderly parents - barrier free shower (white subway tile walls), floor is octagonal white tile, dark wood vanity. The issue is the existing door to their bath is only 2'6", we would like to go to a 3' door. I posted a pic of the existing door (it looks better in the photo than in real life!), and wonder if we should go to a different style as we will probably end up replacing doors eventually throughout (they are pretty banged up and not solid wood). This door will only be visible from their bedroom, but their other bedroom door will be the existing style. I like the look of 4 equal horizontal panel doors (shaker style) - what do you think - replace with same style, just bigger and higher quality door or try a new style?
