Since the top has pads on it, it is hard to tell what it really looks like. The top is almost definitely veneered but that's not a bad thing.

It may all be Ethan Allen and all purchased at the same time, but I am not convinced that the server/sideboard and table/chairs are the same collection. I Could be wrong about that though.

Hmmm... suspicious to me that they chose to photograph with the pad ON.

Just ditched my octogon table. If we had 4 people for dinner, it worked. Worked for 8. 6? No. 5? Fuhgetaboutit.

And as far as having table pads on the table for the photo, I wouldn't automatically be suspicious......how many dressers for sale have dirty clothes piled on top of them? People are so clueless.

We had an octagonal table in our nook and it worked great for 4. Putting the leaf in, worked so-so for 6, but odd numbers were a pain as BKW said. Now, I prefer round or square/rectangular--JMHO.

I agree with Sujafr. I also prefer round, oval, or recangular.

We had an octagonal pedestal table that I rescued from a consignment shop. It was fine in the breakfast room for the two of us, and for four for a light lunch, but everybody's knees were too close together, and the shape costs you a lot of acreage on the top without the flexibility of a round one.

It's essentially a square with the corners cut off, which is where you lose all that surface. And the way it looked with the leaves in was somehow unbalanced. But I'd have used it in a entrance hall or library, where being seated around it wasn't the issue.

Thanks so much for the feedback on the shape. I need to keep looking for a small round pedestal table that can be expanded. I have a small dining room (9x12) so size is an issue. My current table is 3x6 so the size is ok but I prefer round or oval. My current table is a trestle with a low apron that drives me crazy (can't cross legs when seated).
