Kitchen Layout HELP!

We just bought a new home built in 1985. It is an open house, except the kitchen which is at the back of the house shut off from the rest of the house. This isn't what bothers me the most, the worst part is the lack of function in this kitchen. the oven and dishwasher are SO close. The refrigerator blocks part of the entry into the laundry room. I am having a hard time getting a vision for this kitchen. We are willing to do remodeling. I want to use the cabinets and the counters are a neutral corian. We have talked about taking out the wall next to the fridge and opening into the formal dining room which is open to the living room. Any ideas would be so appreciated!

Nice house. :) Looks like it has a lot of space. Kind of a typical, cramped 80s kitchen, though, isn't it?

Just a thought. Do you need that laundry area, or could you open it and recess the fridge in there?

Oh. Is the dining room on the other side of that pantry?

Are you planning on opening up into the dining room to make a larger kitchen, or just to have it open? Do you need a formal dining room?

I guess I have more questions than ideas. I'm afraid I'm also one who must be standing in it to have ideas.

Good luck! I look forward to hearing what you choose to do.

I added a few more pictures to give you an idea of other rooms. These were all prior to painting when we were doing a walk through.

The house is very large, the kitchen NOT! We do not need a formal dining room. But I have no ideas for what that room can be. The house has a large formal living room and a family room already. And the formal dining room. So if we opened the kitchen to the formal dining room we can't add another family room, we would then have three, all connected by a fabulous wetbar! yikes! And it will be hard to make the kitchen larger if we open into the dining room because of the large windows on the wall and I don't want to lose those because of the beautiful water view. We have thought about expanding the kitchen into the breakfast nook opening into the dining room and moving the table in there. Typically how much does a renovation cost? Do you think it could be done under $10k? I don't know if I should give up my dreams and just get new appliances and just live with this layout or go for it.

We do need a laundry room, but what a horrible place. There is room to expand the laundry room to the right into the garage. Maybe we could put an entrance from the dining room into the laundry and close it off from the kitchen? Or is that weird.

The house is very nice, congratulations! I love all the trees & plants, pretty view.

That kitchen is scary looking, strange angle. It doesn't look like it'll fit but 1 cook.

You can do away with the breakfast area so you could enlarge the kitchen. In your new kitchen design, you can incorporate a breakfast bar instead. Definetely cut off the counter/cabinet area where the sink is and relocate it elsewhere along with the D/W.

Keep you formal dining as a dining room. If you don't want your kitchen to be isolated, open up that wall halfway horizontally. This way, your kitchen is still separated but not closed in. And, it will give you ways of entertaining your guests/family while you're preparing food.

Next, I'd suggest you partially close up that open box between the living room and the formal dining room. Close it only 2/3 of the length. Then, cut off the top and bottom walls of the other third of that open window. Basically, you'd want to enlarge the hallway entrance between the 2 rooms.

    I hope, I'm making sense.
