Master Bedroom Bedding

Why am I having such a hard time finding bedding for our master????? I have found several that I like but think it may be to frilly for a master. Do you select what you like or do you consider that you are sharing the room with a man??? Does anyone do florals in their master? I sure would like to see pictures of your master bedding for inspiration. Please post pics.

    Hi Gages granny,
I have been redoing my bedroom for the last year. I have bought several comforters and taken them back. Our first and for most consideration is we want it to be yummy. That is when you get in at night you say WOW.So I went with Pottery Barn vintage red quilt. I am putting LLBeans down blanket under it . Useing it more at the end of bed. As far as using floral, My husband feels,- Happy wife Happy Life. So I am blessed there. Good Luck

I am having the same problem - they are out there but mega $$$$$$. Did you check out Horchow - I think they are having a sale right now.

I don't want floral either, I want something rich and plush looking. I found a beauty on Horchow but they didnt' have the dust ruffle so I passed on it.

Took me years (literally) to find bedding I like. Yes, I do consider my husbands tastes since it is a room for both of us. I love birds and found this at Pottery Barn, it was perfect for the earthy feel we were going for. We have dark furniture, darker colored lamps and chocolate dupioni silk drapery to balance it out. We put a soft gray blue on the walls with white trim and crown molding. We're both really happy with the way it looks in the room but I still need to accessorize and find wall art which is a challenge of it's own.

I realize it's not everyone's cup of tea, but we love it.

PB's cotton print selection is the best, I think- always looks yummy- but, I usually go with solid quilts- or a cream duvet and use a bolster or euro shams to change up the look and feel. For my climate, a quilt with a down blanket in the winter is perfect. Here's a look I'm inspired by now....looking for a similar pillow cover that works for us.

Calvin Klein's bedding is quite gender neutral, but luxurious. I love bedding so I have a whole wardrobe of different pieces so that I can change the way the bed looks all the time. Once you discover a pattern that you like, check out eBay before you finalize a purchase. You can often find the same bedding at a significant discount.

I've listed another site below that is fun to browse.

I know how difficult it can be to get both of his and her tastes! I just did our master, careful not to get too frilly. We chose charcoal gray damask stripe bedding - very rich looking. I used accent pillows to add visual interest. The bed is in front of an understated blue-green accent wall. The other walls are off-white. The decor and accents are oil rubbed bronze/hammered metal with an exotic feel - lots of geometric pattern.

I do like some floral but when I redid our master I also wanted to represent my DH in the room. After a long time looking I settled on the Ralph Lauren Edgefield collection. Floral comforter, houndstooth for some of the pillows and top sheet, plaid for the bedskirt, and a solid garnet for fitted sheet and king pillows. This photo is a poor representation but I really like how both the masculine and feminine are incorporated. I think, from what I remember, RL has quite a few collections like this. (I also could have gotten a plaid comforter and floral bedskirt and I may yet pick those up so that I have the option of swaping them around.)

His collections are a bit pricey for me but, I collected it piece by piece on ebay and didn't pay anywhere near even a sale price at a department store....or the RL website.

I found a Blue and Brown and Ivory Paisley Bedding set at Bed Bath & Beyond - VERY yummy. It's priced higher than I can do right now - but I'm GETTing it!! Plus BBB has 20% coupons all the time!! I've attached a link/picture of a similar one - not the one I found in the store - oh, dear - I better go get it if it's not even online...!!

Oh Lisa, I think I saw that set and it was very pretty. Paisley is a great compromise to florals. The one at Home Goods is very similar to one that PB has.

Kitch n Kat you're right, PB's linens are very good quality. Ours is a duvet. We had a feather down comfortor in it during the winter and have a light weight quilt in it for the summer. I just love how thick and soft the cotton is, and this particular print looks like it's been hand painted.

I tried to work with my man on the bedding in the master bedroom, but his only response was "do whatever you'd like". So I did! I fell in love with this duvet cover from Anthropologie. It's very graphic black and white with a somewhat abstract floral design.

I try to balance the feminine look of the duvet cover with the style of the room. The walls are a medium gray-blue that has a very masculine feel with a contrasting white trim and fireplace. I hope to eventually purchase some dark cherry or mahogany clean lined bedroom pieces (right now I have a free set that is a little too light and rustic for me since I prefer contemporary). I intended to put up drapes but the ones I purchased weren't the right color, but I will be doing something non-floral and mildly masculine (solid with maybe a single black stripe or something similar). I keep the sheets solid and do not include any extra decorative pillows (though we both use 3 standard pillows so there are a lot of pillows on the bed). I think ideally you balance the masculine/feminine feeling in the room so you both feel at home.

I also like many of the bedding options from Pottery Barn, especially the one lukkiirish selected.

I bought a RH paisley duvet cover for our master bedroom. It was lovely and DH liked it, too. I say "was" because despite being warned never to do so, he washed it in hot rather than cold water, so all the sheen is gone and it has lost all its richness. I am SO irritated (actually, much more than that, but I'd have to use all those symbols to express it). AND, it didn't even need to be washed. Maybe he hated it after all???

Anyway, don't think I would do a floral, but that is just me. We have had quilts and plain colors as well as the paisley.

Yes, I considered there will be a man in the master. :0) It's a little more frilly than it should be...? It morphed....lol I started out with these wingback chairs, but they needed to go with the oriental rug, so I slip covered them....now it's more a feminine theme...oh well.

Okay, need your help. I like both of these so need your opinions on which one is better for a Master bedroom. (hope this work)

I bought this set 3 years ago and the photo does not do it justice. It's rich, deep earth tones (golds, some green and a rust/brown) It's not this tan color shown in the photo. The comforter is THICK and gorgeous. The company semn fabric samples from several I selected and this was the winner for me. It helped so much to have the fabric watches so I could see them and feel them. I painted my bedroom walls in my recent home SW Amber Grain which is similar to Restrained Gold, but softer. I LOVE IT - but... we are building and our new farm house will have a lighter feel and I'm wanting a coverlet or quilt but DH likes what we have and says I can't afford anything else right now. ! Hopefully, next summer I can do a summery coverlet/quilt in similar colors and use this set in the winter. I DID notice they have some of the extra pieces on sale and I'm going to order those.
I hope you find your perfect bedding. Good Luck!

I went through my "blue phase" where my bedding was a soft blue Cottagey floral, but for the last several years, I've been very content with our white-on-white MBR, which is actually a mix of creams and whites. The only pictures I have at the moment are of the Winter bedding. During the Spring and Summer months, I use a cream colored Matelasse instead of the comforter in this pic.
As for taking into consideration my DH's preferences, I never have. He made an attempt when we first were married to have a more masculine MBR, but I nipped that one in the bud. I've never been one to think a cutesy, ruffly bedroom would be comfortable for a guy. BUT, I do think that a romantic bedroom is . . . frankly . . . more conducive to romance for both men and women. Anyhoo, so that's what kind of rooms I create and DH honestly likes them. I've just make sure that there's a comfortable chair for him to sit and read in, good lights to read by, no overhead lights (hate them) and rheostats wherever needed. No desk either!
We both like our MBR very much; during the cool months, it's warm and cozy and in the hot months it feels cool and serene . . . and very romantic ;^D

This post caught my attention. I have been agonizing over bedding too and then had an "ahaa" moment. First Im not changing my bedding because Im tired of my current style.
I just realized that my comforter is so heavy that I wake up in the morning and my ankles hurt from my feet being flattened out if you get my drift.
So, I knew I wanted a light weight down comforter with a duvet cover. But what color? So I decided to just go white and add color with stylish bed pillows. In my case, I am going with silver.
This way, when I do get tired of the colors, I only need to change pillows, bed runner, ect.
Bedding is expensive. So I decided to buy the biggest, nicest down comforter I can afford and dress it up.

I had a hard time finding my bedding too. It's more on the formal side, but it fits our current house.

Tinker, your bedding beautiful. Your pillows are perfectly placed and your whole room is very well done. Thank you for sharing and I agree it is elegant but it works so well for a Master. Are your walls paper or painted stripes? It looks so good with your bedding.

Thanks gagegranny! The paint is SW Camelback flat on the walls, and the strips I did with the same color, in a satin finish. I do love how it came out!

Here's ours. It's by Ralph Lauren. We picked out the comforter together over 10 years ago when we got married (it was a wedding gift from my MIL). It's held up like iron (obviously all the sheets, pillows have changed).

I didn't buy a set, but found separates that I liked to coordinate and I love the end result. Unfortunately I didn't consider that our cat was going to shed tan hair all over the brown mattelase quilt when we adopted her a few months ago! I'm currently looking for a new duvet. I think I need more pattern in there.
