Help me decide TODAY

I found this fabric on sale, ($7 instead of $40!!!!) and thought it might go well with my red couches and new wood floor and help lighten my room a bit. Don't know if it is called tapestry, but has three layers of fabric, woven together where the design is. There is only enough to do my one and only window in the living room, and they are holding it for me. What do you think? Does it clash with my oriental rug? (Not married to the rug, it came with the couches - a model home sale). My other choice, what I went shopping for, is just a muslin-like fabric, and there were several choices and textures at this fabric outlet.

The other issue is that the adjoining den (6' wide doorway) has two windows and would need curtains too. I could match the off-white color, but not the fabric. I haven't figured out the whole adjoining room thing. I like too many different things to have my whole house look the same - but I don't want to tacky either. Would love to hear from some of you talented people!

    You have a pretty room!

The fabric is neat and I can see why you like it. However, IMO, it is too light in feeling to go with the rest of your room. I have a similar kind of sofa and I have the same issue-- want to lighten my room. One of the problems with that kind of sofa, plus your wood paneling, is that even though you want to have a lighter feel, the fabric still has to balance in the "heaviness" factor, if that makes sense.

I see it sort of like I do summer vs. winter clothing. If I am wearing corduroy or chenille pants (LOL!) then a light cotton shirt won't go.

BUT, you have the fabric there with you-- if you think it feels heavy enough (sometimes it just does not come through in pictures) then go for it. I, personally, would look for something a little richer to go with the more luxurious paneling and deeper colors. Your room seems very elegant and while the fabric is, too . . .not sure it works enough.

Again- if you are there in person and LOVE it, then ultimately that is what matters! Do you love it, or are you trying to make it go? If you love it, get it!

It's hard to say how it looks with the rug or the couch because there are no pictures showing the fabric with those things. I love the fabric and it looks quite heavy. BUT, the color I see when I look at the fabric is peach/orange, rather than reds.

I do think it would lighten up the room nicely though, so it comes down to your own color sense. I love the room!

Thanks for your responses, early risers! I took the pics in the dark this morning so colors may be a little distorted. If you think it is too light because of the color, that could be. The fabric itself though, is very heavy - almost like a quilt, and I am still stumped. It is very definately dark red - the viney things, but has some yellow in the flowers, so if it comes off as orange that is not good.
So if that is too light, I guess an even lighter muslin color would be even more so! I do like the fabric up close. I like the slight puffiness of it and the graceful curly stuff. Will I like it as floor to ceiling curtains? Don't know. That is the problem with sewing. Technically, you can make exactly what you think want, but if you don't like the end result, you can't return it!

Is there another place in the house you can use the fabric if it doesn't work there? It looks like a nice fabric, I've seen it or something similar in prefab curtains and it was very pretty.

Still, it's hard to see in the pictures so I'd hate to say yes, it's great, go for it. At 7.00/yard though it might be worth taking the risk if you have another way you could use the fabric as a back up plan.

Some time ago, I found 7 yards of fabric @ 2.00/yd that seemed perfect for our kitchen & dining room windows. It looks like it's going to turn out as planned but if it hadn't I knew I could use it to make place mats and table runners for my mother and sister.
