I pressed the orange and held down the remote button for 30 seconds. I then pressed the orange button held it down for 10 seconds then pressed the button on the remote for a couple of minutes. I have tried both ways multiple times. I can not get the lights to ever flash to indicate that the code was accepted. Also I can't get my touch pad to work either. The hardwired mounted on the wall works everytime.

ctg255, hold down the button on your remote and then press the smart/learn button on the back of your opener and release both buttons. Do not hold the smart/learn button in.

I have some old garage door remotes (139.53779 and 139.53778). Are they compatible with a Model 41A5021-3H opener?

my opener quit working in december and i thought it was the relay. i tried it today and the opener started working again, without any repairs done to it. the only problem is my remote wont work. the manual said to press learn button and light will come on for 30 seconds. during the 30 seconds press the button you want to use on your remote. i did this and my remote still doesn't work, even with a battery change. any ideas?

I seem to be having the same trouble as all the others. I also own a pre-existing gdo (manufactured in 98) that was here when I bought my home. It is a Craftsman 139.53 and when I program one remote the other doesn't work. I also was able to use the keyless entry keypad but despite my following the directions on the device I am unable to re-program that (it blinks fast when I enter the passcode) it still does not work. I followed the directions that were posted by Jim but I am still not having success. Does anyone have any other suggestions.

Sometimes Don and I talk in different terms because we deal with this stuff all day long, every day. We may not explain things so that it's easy to understand, so let me take another stab at it.
Lets assume that all your transmitters are the latest, rolling code. (because they are, you have the red button)They include the two remotes and the outside digital keypad. But, for some strange reason, one of your remotes has lost the ability to roll it's code, and reverts back to the old billion code system. It's still transmitting, but its not transmitting like it should. Lets call that one, "The Bad One"
Start by wipeing out the memory of all transmitters from the motor unit. Now, program the keypad, and it works fine. Now, program a hand held remote, and it works fine. But you cant program the second hand held remote (the Bad One), because it's not transmitting in rolling code like the other two are, and the computer says, "NOPE, not going to accept you cause your not rolling code."
Now, lets try a different senario. You start with all the memory cleared from the motor unit. The first remote you try to program is the "Bad One" It will program just fine! The Logic board is saying "Were going to operate on billion code are we? OK, fine, everything from here on must be billion code." So then you try to program your other remote, (which is rolling) and it won't program.
So as you can see, the Logic board will accept either billion code or rolling code, but not both together.
Thats why you can program one or the other, but not both.

The chances of a hand held remote and the digital keypad going bad at the same time are doubtfull.
Find whichever hand held remote works with the keypad, and thats the one you keep. The other one is the Bad One, get rid of it and buy a new one.

Does the remote have to be reprogramed after changing the battery? The owner's manual doesn't say anything about having to reprogram the remote after battery replacement. I have opener pt#41A5021-3H and keypad #13953876 w/no manual. I cannot seem to program the keypad to the opener. I have tried on-line solutions to no avail ie. "Enter 4-digit code then hold the enter key while pressing the learn button on the opener" and/or "hit the learn button on the opener and then enter the 4-digit code and enter". I have tried these type scenario's with the door open and closed. The visor mount remotes will respond to the training but not the keypad.

I think you are trying to use an older keypad with a new opener and they are not compatible.

The button should be just to the left of all those white wires on the motor unit.

I have read the above posts, and am still not clear as to how to fix my remote. I changed the batteries, but do not know where the operator box is. How do I re-program?
Do I need to get a new one? Where would I get one?

I have two remotes. One stopped working and then the other stopped a few weeks later. The door opener still worked from the Door Control Push Button.
I have an older model 139.53672 (installed 1998), but I got my remotes to work again by first going through the procedure for "Erase All Remote Control Codes", and then for each remote, I did the "Add a Remote Control" procedure for each remote. It's simple to do. On the door opener itself, you should find a "Learn" push button for Erasing and Adding remote controls. The button is not labeled on my opener, but is shown in the manual. My push button is on the back of the opener, away from the door, and not covered. Yours may be near the light bulb. If you you don't have the manual, try this. I have 3 remotes that were all working perfectly. I bought a wireless keypad and had to change the dipswitches on my opener. After programming the wireless keypad and getting it to work I now can't get any of the 3 remotes to work. I have changed the dipswitches on the remotes to match the opener and nothing. I have checked and rechecked the setting over and over. I find it hard to believe that 3 remotes would all go bad at the exact same time. THe opener is model number 139.53300 and the openers are model 139.53778.

On the back of the motor unit near where all those white wires go you will find the smart/learn button. Press and immediately release this and walk over and key in a PIN number of your choice and press enter. If the keypad is working this will do it for you.

My 139.53515SR CRAFTSMAN Garage Door Opener will not recode as to keep my neighbor across the street from opening my garage door. I think my receiver is no longer working properly so I can recode it. How am I able to tell if it is malfunctioning other than my neighbor keep opening my door? The red recode light comes on and stays on until I press a button on my handheld remote. The neighbor still is able to open my door. BTW, the 75 watt lightbulb no longer turns on. I have put several new light bulbs in to test. Still, no light. Thanks for your help.

To control the main overhead light:

If you have a remote with enough buttons or a homelink (say in your car) and you want to use a button to control the main overhead light - on those models that allow it - use the following. I know this works on my 53985 (319.53985):

Close the garage door.
Press and hold the remote button you want assigned to the light.
Press and hold the "light" button on the wall (what Sears calls the "Premium Control Console")
Press and hold the "lock" button on the wall.
Hold them all until the light flashes.

Release them all, and now that remote button should control the light. Not sure if the light can be controlled with the door open. Man was this hard to find!!

The 800 number for Sears tech support on garage doors is 800-528-5236 - but they're only open during extended day hours - not 24x7. I have no idea if they could help with this - I found it by Googling.

are the craftsman 139.53753 and 139.53681b garage door remotes compatible? the 81b from my old 2003 craftsman opener will not work on a new 2011 craftsman opener i just bought.

Had the same problem with changing batteries, then remotes not working. Not sure who above suggested this, but it worked.

Step 1 - With garage door closed, erase all codes in opener by holding SRT button 10-15 seconds.

Step 2 - Press & release SRT button on back opener motor, quickly. Then press remote button you are trying to program, opener lights blink twice, remote is programmed.

If you have more than 1 remote, repeat Step 2.

We got new openers. Programed the first one, easy. The garage door opens, but will not close. It starts, jerks, and goes back up and then the light starts blinking and that is all it does. How do we get it to close?

It sounds like a problem with the sensors at the bottom of the door. (something is blocking them, they are not aligned properly, not connected properly, etc.) The LED indicators should should be on steady on both sensors if they are aligned, and sending/receiving the signal properly. The door should close in the present state if you press and hold the wall button until the door is fully closed. It won't go down automatically until the fault is diagnosed and corrected.

Hold the red button on the opener for 1 sec and press the big button on remote and release immediately. It should work. Somebody already suggested above and I've tested with my Craftsman door opener and it works. My door opener is a 2006 model and the remotes are of 2002.

My Craftsman garage door opener went bad which was approx. 15 years old...I went online and purchased an older one, approx 18-20 years old and it works fine...the problem is, how can I program the 3 remotes from the 1st opener to this one. The model # of the one that went bad is 41A3493-1 and the older one that works is 139.53413. Any help would be appreciated

We are required to hold down the button in order for the garage door to go down. If you press it and release it, the door returns to its raised position and blinks 6 times. How can this be reprogrammed to function correctly.

That is a signal that the sensors at the bottom of the door are blocked, misaligned, or not functionning properly. Check that the LED lights on both sensors are lit and on steady with no flickering.

On the opener there is a red button. Hold for 10 seconds to clear all codes. Hold the Button on the remote first then press the red button on the opener until the led light goes out (about 3 seconds). Then you have to press the button on the remote about 3 times and the door should open. Press another 3 times and it will close. Then it will work all the time.

I've studied my Sears manual and read this post, and still am having a problem programing my remotes after changing the batteries.

I haven't used the remotes in many years, so I replaced the batteries and the remotes lit up properly. I got out the manual to figure out how to reprogram them and to make a long story short, one I cannot get to program at all, and the other I can go through all the steps and it will open the door one time ONLY. Then it will not work again! I do NOT have a keypad in use and never had, only the wired transmitter and it works fine. PLEASE HELP!!

I have the same problem as countless people: the keypad and the two clickers are mutually exclusive. Reading the owner's comments and Sears responses, it pretty clear that Sears does not know what the hell is going on.

Hi Everyone, I have an old (10/95) craftsman opener that works fine #139.663956 / S.N. 4935A00718 In the past year I have bought 3-4 remotes that I was told would work. But did not ,and since my unit does NOT have a learn button,I am lost as to what to do. The #'s on my remote are in places worn out so I can not see all the model #'s. My wall switch (power) is model 139.53755 . Can anyone offer suggestions? I am disabled and may need someone to help me so if I can explain to them what to do,I may be able to get this new remote programed or find a suitable replacement. I did some internet surfing and it seems that your opener is quite old and might have add on remote/transmitter?

Does the opener have any DIP switches (a little bank of 8-9 switches)? Open the panel on the opener and see if it does. Write down the switch positions 1-up, 2-down, etc.

Open the rmote and see a similar bank of switches.

Set the remote switches to the same pattern as the opener switches.

If they match it should work.

If the opener does not have DIP switches then we need more information. You might call a local garage door specialist tot ake a look. Conversely you might consider getting a new opener.

I do think you are right. There are no DIP switches on the unit. I'm guessing the remotes are newer than the unit(maybe replaced years ago) dated 10/95. The unit works fantastic for its age! Just stinks that we only have 1 remote and the electric wall switch. Being on the alley,makes it tough with 2 cars trying to share 1 unit. Is there any chance that playing with a programable remote and just keep changing codes (I know it could take hours to go through all the combinations) that I could hit one that would work? Or would I just be wasting my time? A new unit is affordable, but being disabled I could not install it myself. labor could run me 2X what I pay for the new unit I believe. further searchin indictaes that your unit might be using Security+ technology which was superceded by Security+ 2.0. I couldn't find much infomation about the earlier Security+ technology and I belive it is obsolete. My only other suggestion is call a local garage door specialist and see if they can help ouy out. If you have a working remote, then bring that one as an example and perhaps they can provide another one.
