porch views

I just looked at threedgrad's great thread on views from inside of home.I saw some partial porch pics and I wanted to see more. So, I thought I would start another thread of porches. We are still building and are trying to find steps that we like. We have a big front porch. I love looking at the porch furniture and decor. I saw some glimpses from the other thread. I would go first but I don't have a porch yet.

Are you looking for pics of porches, or views *from* porches? I don't have much of a view (yet) still have lots of landscaping to do, but we do like to sit on the porch for coffee in the AM (west facing) and then after dinner to watch the birds - we have pileated woodpeckers and some small bright yellow birds (finches?) that nest in a tree on edge of yard.

I am looking for pics "of" porches. Our brick guys will be starting on it soon so I need to make up my mind. I am also looking at different porch furniture. I wanted to see different looks. I love the blog "Between Naps on the Porch" but hers is a screened porch. I just like looking at porch decor and porch architecture (steps and railings, etc.)

    Thanks!

I have some in my inpiration album I'll share. I have a great covered (and screened in) front porch a back deck with patio below from walk out basement along with a sleeping porch off the master bedroom, but none of them are photo ready. The front porch furniture is waiting to be refinished (by me) and for matching cushions (again by me), the back deck is our veggie garden and I've not found anything I want to use on the other two places yet. I'm getting things done though.
    Hope some of these help...

Oh, please show us the sleeping porches too!

Awhile back there was a thread with the topic of what would you want in your dream home. At the time, I couldn't really think of anything. But now I know- I would absolutely love to have a sleeping porch!!

Such gorgeous and relaxing looking porch pictures, justgotobeme! Looking at those puts me to shame....we have two screened porches, one off the kitchen and one off our master bedroom, as well as a 30' long open porch off the living room. I've really got to do some serious cleaning of our screen porches if I ever want them to look half as luxurious! Unfortunately, DH uses both as a catch-all for yard items or fishing gear.

Those beautiful photos give me some great inspiration, though, and would be a great project for my free days in July.

If I ever get a porch big enough it will look like one of those. May have nothing inside the house- but will have a wonderful front porch! LOL

I'm happy to hear you all enjoyed them so much. I wish mine front screened in porch was finished and I'd share that with you. Maybe before the end of summer I'll have time to sew the cushion covers and be able to share it.

Wow! Some of those front porches are bigger than my entire front yard. I don't have a porch but I have a courtyard that is close to being what I want in the front. Alas everything is moved off of it at the moment while the new roof is being put on.

    Thanks for the gorgeous pictures.

Mine isn't magazine-chic but it's real and we spend alot of time out there when summer rolls around. It's not a front porch, it's off my kitchen.

Here is a link that might be useful: screen porch

Justgotabme, Thank you so much for the treat of seeing those sleeping porches! I'll never be able to have one in this house, but perhaps a sleeping gazebo? Hmmm.....

When I was little, we would visit relatives on the NJ shore. All the kids slept on a sleeping porch (there were bunkbeds, and cots would be added as needed). You could hear the ocean all night, smell the salt air, we would talk and giggle late at night until we fell asleep, and wake up to hear the adults in the kitchen below making breakfast. It was magic. I will always love sleeping porches. So much better than AC!

Thanks for starting this thread, firstlastbuild, and thanks for *all* the pics, justgotabme! We are having our screened porch and deck built as I type, and seeing all these beautiful porches has me so excited to decorate ours. I'm thinking of having a daybed out there, so seeing the sleeping porches really helped. Thanks again!

We just got our railings up...it's been a year's worth of work but we live out here now! My husband just put up 2 ceiling fans as well...it's another room as far as I'm concerned. If you want pictures from "ON" the porch, just let me know.

Here is the house we are building. Unfortunately, there is a dump trailer in front of it! We are trying to see what kind of steps would look good with it. I thought about having the steps come straight down except for the last step. The last step could be bigger than others and rounded to set a planter. The porch still needs to be built higher. They have at least 2 more rows of block to set. So, there will be about 6 steps. Any ideas?

Loving this thread! Thanks for starting it, firstlastbuild (haha, are you sure), and for all the pics, justgotabme!

First, I like the idea of the last step being bigger for planters. Good luck with your build. : )

Pic#2 is about the size of my back porch, which I'd like to enclose. I'm getting lots of inspiration from that pic.

We have three verandas. The front is a nice place to sit and watch the dogs play:

    {{gwi:1416337}}

Part of the upper/back veranda is screened. Favorite of the cats:

As pretty all the inspiration pictures are, I have to be practical. The wind blows down our valley straight towards our house. Everything gets wet.

Our lower veranda is similar to the upper, but no screening and has large brick arches. It's furnished with Adirondack chairs and a vintage glider. Frankly, we rarely sit down there. It gets wetter than the upper veranda so again, nothing fancy. Just practical.

Barb,I'm so happy you enjoyed them. I can see why you love the idea of them. We've not slept on ours yet. It's not closed in yet. I doubt my hubby would want to sleep out ther anyway. He has another name for it since he doesn't like the idea of sleeping there.

First last build. I love your home. I'll see what I can find of porches later. I'm waiting for our son to get home with something for dinner. Our grandson will be here soon too and I've not yet finished cleaning the Gentlemen's Parlor wood floors yet.

Allison, What beautiful verandas. You make practical look beautiful!

Allison - Have always loved your house and setting.

firstlastbuild - Love that name BTW and certainly understand what you mean by that name, although I am itching to build again. Try doing a Google using "Cape Cod porches", and choose the IMAGE view. Lots of porches and ideas for you.

Allison, I'm drooling over your lower veranda. Can you show me a picture of the whole house so I can see it better?

I long for the days of blue wood porches. I grew up with one, all the old homes we rented in college had them. I remember many summer nights sitting out there with friends just shooting the bull.

LOVE the inspiration pictures! Fortunately when we added on the room, we built a very large porch. One side is big enough for a full seating area, coffee table and rug included! Right now it has two folding chairs. lol. We need too many things like rugs and furniture before we can buy the porch furniture. :(

I do want to say that I'm glad we didn't put a railing on. I desperately wanted a wrought iron railing, my dh didn't, so we waited and I love being able to step off the porch, even though it's high in a couple of areas.

Here's the only one I have that might help you. The steps are all brick, but do get wider.

Thanks. Oakleyok, I don't have any good photos of the back - you'd think in three years I would have taken one after we got moved in. lol I'll put that on my list to do tomorrow. Pretty much the only photos I have are under construction and just after we moved in with a huge pile of pinestraw bales in the way.

This want help you, but here is my front porch, and the view I had this morning of the golf course sprinklers. I like to sit here and read the paper while waiting for the dog to finish her business. :)

PS - Did you notice I have the blinds pulled up on the study side of the house? That's because as of this past weekend, the bottom half of the blinds were destroyed during a storm by my sweet little girl trying to get outside while we were away. :(

OK, didn't mean to get off topic.

Poor baby. It's hard to stay mad at her, I bet!

Oakleyok, I took a few pictures this morning. House is still wet from rain, but will be dry (in this heat!) within a few hours.

Here's a shot DH took right after we moved in from down the lake. Silt fence is still in place. I need to take a newer one this fall. I love the arches. Our brickmasons were great. The inside of arches are lined with Old Cahaba brick. They are tumbled, so they are rough and have character.

Y'all kill me. You know you're the only forum I have to limit myself on? I cannot afford to look over here. You're such enablers and cause me conundrums! But that's why I love you so much. So many choices, so little money :(

Oh, I ache from wanting all of these porches. Really beautiful and inspirational. Thank you so much for putting up the pictures!!!
