Master Bedroom Decorating Challenge!

hello all! Haven't been back here in quite some time, but I have always loved reading posts and seeing the incredible creativity from so many people.

I have a little challenge I'm trying to overcome right now with my master bedroom. After relocating a TV cabinet to the other side of my bedroom:

http://lh4.ggpht.com/_NdUUOlInKQo/TDvH09SJnTI/AAAAAAAATcw/ek1uMNpMERE/s144/IMG_0023.JPG

...I've now got this big empty corner:

...that I'm desperately trying to figure out what to do with. The challenge is that I really don't want to put another piece of furniture there, nor do I want a plant in the room. Does anybody out there have ANY ideas for something unique and different I can do with that space? Oh, another challenge, I would like something on the tall side to offset the dimensions in the room. thanks for any and all ideas!!

    Here, this is easier:

It's a lovely space, I think you just need some artwork on your walls.

How about a free standing full length floor/cheval mirror? or one that leans up against the wall?

These below are $$$ but i'm sure you can find similar mirrors cheaper. Is the one above your dresser large enough to fit in that area and maybe you can put artwork above the dresser instead.

These are a lot cheaper, but not nearly as detailed

I think you just need artwork: some relatively large pieces.

like the idea of propping a large mirror or even a large print there if you'd rather keep the mirror above the dresser.

dawnp: thank you for helping with my photos!

lishanna: I do LOVE cheval mirrors and thought of that, but ruled them out simply because I do have that mirror right over my dresser, which I do like there. Two mirrors side by side wouldn't look too good, so I guess the whole mirror thing is out.

I do think I definitely need some art work though. A couple of big prints or oils maybe stacked one on top of the other on that wall. Then, hmmm, maybe I can do some assorted big, empty colorful vases or pottery on the floor?

    thanks everyone!

What a beautiful room! May I interrupt this thread to ask what paint/color you have on the walls?

lovely bedroom...what paint color is on your walls?

The room is lovely - like a magazine pix.

Have you considered moving the dresser to the right some more, and moving the chest of drawers onto the same wall? The tall chest feels a bit crowded between the windows, and you seem to have enough wall space where the dresser is to give both pieces Âbreathing roomÂ.

Then you could hang several pieces of art vertically on the wall where the chest was.

I would also love to see trim around the opening between the two rooms, in the same style as the trim around the doorways and windows.

I don't have any great ideas...sorry. Maybe a quilt stand. Your room is beautiful though.

lateforthesky & malkia: the paint color is Sherwin Wms Softer Tan (SW6141) and ceiling Moderate White (SW6140). It's several years old already though. Not sure it still exists. I love it though. It changes with the light and is very warm.

les917: thanks. I don't aspire to look like a magazine pic every day, but when the bed is made, it does look "put together" in there, which I like. I usually keep my quilt folded under my bed and when it's just my husband and I home for days on end, I make the bed up with sheets/blanket folded only. When "company" comes, I'll go ahead and do the bed up. I seriously hate the hassle of all the pillows on a daily basis, but I love the way they look on the bed. Oh well. Lazy I guess. Anyway, hey, I might just try your suggestion of moving the chest over to the same wall as the triple dresser. That would sure free up room there, especially since that is MY side of the bed and it's a wee bit tight when I've got to manuever in the dark! Will let you know how that looks. The dresser is on felt slides, so I can easily try it over there (with hubby's help sliding it).

vamiressrn: thanks too, I used to want a quilt stand, but at the same time, they are all a little too "country" for the room, so I nixed the idea.

I thought about an accent chair over in that corner, but since I know in my heart I'd never sit there, I thought it would be silly. I really don't like having things take up space that aren't truly functional in some way. Besides, I've already got that chaise in there that is like a focal piece for the sitting room. My husband loves to sit there and watch TV with his laptop on his lap and a cup of tea while I'm watching a show on the big TV that he doesn't care to see.

les917: oh, I forgot to say, I also love the idea of adding trim around that opening into the sitting room. Gonna talk to my husband about that and see if it's possible!

If you are talking about that corner, how about a nice pedistal, with a beautiful statue or bust on it?

not sure about the trim in the opening IMHO. You have enough already and I think more would be distracting and conflicting, no offense. With the decor and the crown and the fireplace(im so jealous) the simpler opening look very nice.

I don't see a problem with the empty corner. I don't think every corner needs to be filled with something. You could put some artwork up if you want but I'm not seeing a huge problem here.

You have a beautiful room! Allow yourself time to adjust to the moving of the tv. The eye needs some place to rest, so blank areas are good. I agree with the posters who don't want the opening to the sitting area trimmed out. It looks great just the way it is!

I love the room just the way it is. I agree with Happyladi.

    Smiles:)

Beautiful and relaxing bedroom! Another idea would be to put a large decorative vase (something really big- like about 36" tall). TJ Maxx carries a lot of decorative vases. Or may a small round table with books and decorative items on it. I love your chest and highboy. Would you mind sharing the manufacturer/style of those items?

thanks for all your ideas guys! I'll start with some art and go from there. I sort of prefer "spareness" in general over a more full look, so I'll go slow with it! I'll post when I find a picture or two I like.
