SHADES - I keep coming back to this. Was this a tall mirror that hangs above a chest? So, did you just mosaic over all but the center of the mirror? Details, please. Sure w/be nice to have a close-up of some of the tesserae. The black paisley design in the left foreground looks like a necklace. I'm thinking that wonderful necklace I have w/those beads may be missing from my jewelry box soon.

Hi Morning almost afternoon here. We had to go to town,60 ,miles for a belt for the snow blower and wormer for the pets.

Thanks for all the great comments. I am liking this with all of the color but it is also scaring me. My camera does have color issues and makes things brighter than they really are in person but there IS COLOR here.

Now for the details. This dresser is 20 inches side to side 40 inches tall. 11 inches front to back. Tall and narrow and thin.

The picture is the side. The dresser is laying on it's side to do the work on it. I have it sitting up on the removed drawers to make it an ok heigh to to work on.

The mirror is 3 3/4 inches wide and 30 inches long. There are two mirrors. I will put the other one on the other side of the dresser. I got them at the thrift store. They were outside to be tossed so I asked for them and she just gave them to me. The edges of the mirrors are all nice and rounded smooth. I do not know what they were for to begin with.

Details. I strung the beads on thin wires and then removed the wires after they were glued down. Next time I will string the beads on beading thread and leave it in. I think next time I will use E6000 to glue the beads down. The silicone had been a real pain to deal with. I pushed the fill in tiles up very close to the beads to help hold them in place.Some of the beads I was able to cut inhalf with my nippers and glued down the flat side on by one.

Everything is smooth even before grouting. The beads do stick up but there is no ruff places on this piece. I did tumble all but the mirror glass. I used sliver lined tube beads between some of the red random glass bits just for interest. Like silver grout lines. I am not sure I will grout the paisleys I did this to.

YIKES I never even thought to do the fronts of the drawers. I suppose I will need to do something with them. Maybe paint in a color to blend. I do use this dresser in the office for office things so the drawers are pulled often.

I bought these faces to put at the tops of the mirrors, one on each dies, and how funny there are fases on one of the exchange gifts. I do not plan to glue them down but to make a way to hang them. Funny how things strike us as a good thing to use. I plan on painting the insides of the faces because it will show in the mirrors white if I do not paint them.

Slow the black beads are from a vintage necklace. I did have to take them off and re string them.

Thanks Again I need to do some chores and then I hope something comes to me for the ends of this piece. I was thinking to tone it down just a bit. LOL

HAHAHA Janie. I do not have room here for little added things around. So I MUST mosaic the things that are already here. Honest nothing good was harmed in this project. This is a junk dresser missing one drawer I picked up at a yard sale for $2.00. I seem to be collecting small dressers. I bought three right after we moved in here. And a little one drawer thing that shows in my office picture on another thread.

I think this dresser will be a bright spot in my office to look at when I am drudging through the cemetery books.

Thanks Again. Still working on chores had to stop for food. Back to it so I can mosaic some more. I do not remember when I started working on this dresser it has been a long time ago. I did the trunk and the other dresser while taking a break from this one. I think the second side will go easier since I have worked out some of the bugs.

Awesome! When you work on wood furniture, do you have to seal it first? If so, what do you use? I have this fear that the wood will suck out the moisture in the grout and that all my pieces will fall off.

Hi Andrea,

This dresser has ben painted several times in it's previous life. No problem with the grouting over paint. It is recomended to seal the wood. Some use the diluted Welbond some use primer. I have used primer and varnish and spray paint. I let the spray painted piece sit for over a month before doing mosaic on it. Mostly because I did not have time. There was something I read about paint taking a long time to cure. So far I have not had a problem.

One thing is if you are using the piece outside and it is wood you REALLY have to seal it up and even so eventually it will warp and self distruct. I would use the cement board for outside.

So far I have only used silicone and E 6000 for glue.

Shades, your dresser is GORGEOUS! Quite eye candy in an office! I'm with Janey, I can't get off the little projects. I don't know if I would have the patience to stay with something this size - yet. Beautiful work!
