Pricing a Dining Room Set

I need to sell my 1980's Thomasville dining set. It has table, 6 chairs, buffet and server with large glass china cupboard. It really is still in very good condition. it's that old fruitwood color.

I have someone that may want it and I was going to ask $500 is that fair for the age and style?

Yes.. if it's all good wood and/or in good condition, they would be getting a good deal. If it was only the table and chairs, I might suggest $500 as your top price.... :)

I would look on your local craigslist to get a better idea for your area...

    I think it's a steal for $500.

The question is though W_I_P_08, what did the used furniture store turn around and list it for? If they were willing to pay $250 to carry it as inventory, they felt that they could get at least double for it, I'm sure. So perhaps the real FSBO price is somewhere in between.

I think it is a great price for you as well as the buyer. That is a lot of furniture with a buffet and large china cabinet.

Can you post a picture of it. That would help.

Sorry I don't know how to post pics. But, the set is very nice condition - I rarely used it. I had the canning taken out and new fabric put on the seats and backs a few years ago. I also have the table pads for it. The color I used was a purple with tourquise dots, so it is still fairly current fabric.
Since I am paying $3K for just a table and 6 chairs - no china cupboard or buffet I thought $500 was fair since I really want to just find it a good home. Many of the sets I see really don't look that much different - except the wood is a little darker and the hardware less "traditional" looking.
I did think of just having it refinished to a darker color and putting on updated hardware to go w/my new home, but I deserve NEW..LOL

I think the price is very fair for all 3 pieces. Some buyers may not have room for all the pieces so you may want to list them separately with a slightly higher purchase price as well as the $500 bundled price if a buyer purcahses all three items. If it does not sell after a week or two, then you can always lower the price.

Prices can vary quite a bit regionally on CL so what is seen in some areas is not in another. However, you can do some searches on your local CL to see what is the going price for similar sets.

It's hard getting good prices on craigslist since there is so much free furniture. I find that if I am looking for something and I am just patient, I can usually find it for free. Sorry, I know that's not something you want to hear.

Hopefully, the person that said they would be interested will take it for the $500.
I really do not want to list on CL, as I live alone and worry about people coming into my home. You can never be too careful.
Off topic - but, my heart goes out to the family who's son was just abducted walking home from camp. All he did was get alittle lost and asked for directions. So very sad for that family...

I recently sold a Thomasville Collectors Cherry Din. Rm. set on Craigslist - there were plenty of them on CL as well as Ebay - you'll be lucky to get $500 - take it if that is offered.
