Well i order mine online. Went to hobby lobby and micheals and all they had was the styrofoam ones not the hard kind of it either. I can't wait to get them and start.

I ordered mine online too. Should be here Mon or Tues! I gotta got get tweezers for sure. It's so frustrating when you're tryin to apply a tiny piece and it continually stick to your finger instead of on the substrate!

I have never used a glass ornament but the ones I have seen dont seem to have been filled. I guess you just have to be really carefull not to break it huh?

BAMA- I deal with small pieces alot and I know what you mean..I have often lost a piece and finally find it stuck to me or my clothes...yet it sticks to us better then the substrate thats for sure!!!

Good question, MMQ. I've wondered, too. In the other thread several folks mentioned the harder foam... so hopefully we'll get an answer.
As I remember... from a christmas tree thread... some gals did glue directly to regular styrofoam for those.

Rather than a tweezers, you might try a pencil with a glob of "fun-tac" or "handi-tac" (or whatever it's called in your area)on the end. The fun-tac picks up and releases the tesserae quite efficiently and I rarely lose a piece.

The thread that Flag posted about her box had a lady comment, whose name was Annie B and she used cast tape and then thinset over that, looked good. I did my cake, just right to the styrofoam, worked well.

Jane, I thought your cake was made on polystyrene?

Styrefoam can probably be used for this just wrap several layers of making tape on it 1st

I was in hob lob today and saw 1 1/2" sized styrofoam balls.... er, that size is REALLY smaller than what I was imagining! I'm glad I ordered assorted sizes!!

I was the one that made the Christmas tree...I started off just using GEII to stick the beach glass to it but switched to a low heat glue gun which worked wonderfully!!! BUT I did not have to grout that piece.

I keep changing what Im gonna do on the spring ball...on day I think yeah I'll do this and then the next it'll change...for such a small project it sure is taking a lot of room in my brain!!!! I guess once I get to start it I will be a little more rooted!!

I see Kathy from Maryland Mosaics also has these polystyrene balls. Pretty reasobable, too. I think I'll order some.

yeah that's where I ordered too... I got everything from 1" to 4" LOL figured 3/4" was really beyond my comprehension.,,

but I realized something, the curtain rod ends that I did are probably about an inch and that really wasn't so bad. I didn't exactly do any pattern or anything but it was doable! ...

I think my balls will be here monday, I can't wait to get my hands on em and solve the mstery of what to make!!!!

Well, for what it's worth, my substrate changed when I found the 'shatterproof' ornaments at Home Depot for 75% off. Got 9 of em for buck-fifty. That works.

Um, you all were talking about "makers" tape, and covering the whole thing with thinset...will that apply to these balls, too? (What's maker's tape?)

I was talking of masking tape just didn't hit the s key!... I think for the thinset suggestion they are talking of mask making stuff that s imprenated with plaster

dang I meant to add, I was talking in reference to using styrofoam... on glass I see no reason not to just glue straight to it?

FYI - When I did my easter styrofoam eggs I coated them first with diluted Weldbond and used GEII for glue.

On another project I put nail polish on a styrofoam ball and it started to melt!! Did the diluted Weldbond then the nail polish and that worked.
