Coloring thinset...

I just looked at a video on Brit Hammer's website. It's Episode #6... the third video down on the page. It has an initial picture of a big, green object.. but it shows her working on a smaller project.

If you have a minute... would you please take a look... and help me understand what she did?

She mixes up the thinset... put's it on the snake-like object and then... before she puts the tiles on... it's magically GREEN. And it all goes by so fast.. that I didn't see her paint on a color.. and if she did.. what would it have been to go directly on the thinset? She pushes the pieces into the thinset so it then becomes grout (I guess?) so I understand why she colored it...but don't know what she used for the color. Thanks for any ideas.

If you slow the video down you can see her spread some yellow stuff on the thinset (Im assuming paint) then a little green here and there. I would guess its acrylic paint mixed with the thin set then slathered on.

wow, that was like magic! lol it looked to me like she slathered on both yellow and green as a top layer over her thinset right about 1:42 seconds... like "pregrouting" darn - why did they have to suddenly film that at warp speed???? pretty cool though and the colors were VIBRANT too... wish I knew

Ok... thanks both of you. You're right... I made it go frame by frame and then I saw... the yellow bottle! :) I guess it was paint. I've wanted to make a lizard...was thinking about a foam base.. then thinset. Gooshing the tiles,etc. into the thinset seems like a nice alternative to setting the pieces then grouting. Thanks again. :)

I guess they had to speed up the actual mosaicing because they wasted time showing her putting on her apron, dinking her coffee, etc!! Kinda reminded me of Mr. Rogers.LOL!
