Dragon WIP and Done (my mood this week)

I've been in a wicked mood all week from no sleep, dealing with an puppy that insists on trying to bite the older dogs face, trying to keep the older dog from killing the puppy and I feel like I've been poked with a stick all week, so something came into my head to do a dragon. This is stained glass on 10x11" plywood. The reddish/green glass is some I found in Hobby Lobby. They started carrying some new glass - made in China.

Very cool. I had to show my 14 yo DS, who said, "Sweet! That it awesome." He reached out to run his fingers across it, then realized he would only feel the monitor :) It does look like it would FEEL like it ought to!

Truly spectacular. I remember making the scales on the rooster, and some of them were shaped just like yours. It really looks dimensional. We saw the glass at HobLob on Friday, and it really is beautiful for backgrounds. Didn't buy any cuz I'm about a gallon low in inspiration. AND, they had 30% off sale too. This is really beautiful. Do you plan to frame this piece, and, if so, how?

    OMG, that is gorgeous!
Yeah, how did you cut the scales? Inquiring minds want to know. They are perfect.

That's some serious mosaic....sirius! Great dragon!

WOW WOW WOW Maybe you should feel this way more often. It becomes you. That dragon is so GREAT!! Colors are so pretty.

I do understand the puppy hood and older dog days. UGH we went through this last year. The fur kids have pretty much worked it out now. There is hope. :^))

    Very cool Sirius!
Your scales are beautiful and your color choices are perfect. I also bought some of that background glass a few weeks ago. I can't wait to use it in something.

Agree with everyone ...this is turning out fantastic. I love your choice of colors. And yes, Hobby Lobby started to stock new glass and it is awesome. I recently purchased some in teals and pinks to cover a mermaid statue (that I haven't started yet). The glass choice will be perfect for the project. The price is a tad bit high, but lucky to have it since the stained glass store closed it's doors last summer after being able to buy glass there for 25 years!

Wow, didn't realize how many of you look here on Sunday nights! Thanks for the comments. That blue glass is actually purple. I don't know why purple glass or flowers never come out right on the camera. This is how I cut the scales; I take a little piece of glass, put it over the pattern on the board and mark it with a sharpie on what shape and size it should be. Then I just keep nipping and fitting until it looks good then just a cleanup on the grinder and I glue it down. Takes awhile grinding on each little piece, but it gives a better finished product.

You are GOOOOOD!!!!!!!!!!! Really awesome work!

    That is fabulous!

What kind of board did you use,and you drew right on the board?won't your lines show thru the glass if you can see thru the glass to cut..boy that must take a lot of time ..you really are good Sirius!

Love him!! You are so lucky that you can draw your own patterns. I get ideas but they never come out of the pen correctly. Maybe I need a new brand of pen? LOL

Sirius - great work. Love the glass - what isn't made in China anymore??? Love all the scales. And you have great drawing ability.

Puppies - don't you just love 'em? I love the smell of puppy breath! I have 2 yorkies & it took 6 months to housetrain them. Yorkies are notorious for that. Good thing they are munchkins or else I couldn't have handled it. Don't worry - they will become best friends fast. You have 1 week in already!

I just make sure I don't use glass that is transparent to see my lines, or I cut just inside the lines. I just use scrap plywood that I get from a carpenter. I didn't draw the dragon, I traced it. Not that good yet!

I had to come back and look again. I think your Dragon is so beautiful!! My camera also has purple issues. Turns it blue. Not sure why.

Are you going to give him a name?
