'Manly Man' wine glasses

A male friend asked me to make him a set of red-wine glasses. I figured this called for something other than flowers, and here's what I came up with. I made a set of four in brown (pictured), green, blue, and silver, each outlined in black. He hasn't seen them yet. I have no idea how they'll look with red wine. :-)

I realize when it comes to painting I have zero technique. The books I ordered are starting to arrive, and I'm afraid when I read them and learn how I'm supposed to do it, I'll wish I had waited and read the books first...

Well, I think you do really well before the books. :) Everyone has their own techniques anyway I think. I'm a big user of the tiny brushes. Should probably learn how to use the bigger ones to my advantage more.
The glasses turned out really good and manly. ha Good pattern too. Let us know what your friend thinks about them. I'm sure he'll like them. :) ~Anj

So how did your friend like them? Those are very "sophisticated" colors, and your design is a good choice for a more masculine design.

Thanks, guys! He hasn't seen them yet. I'm waiting 21 days before I can wash them. (I used Plaid's Folk Art enamels, and that's the recommendation.) I hope the smear of the alcohol base coat will come off. It probably will.

The books are starting to come in. Donna Dewberry's painted furniture book is sooo beautiful! I mustn't forget that I'm a writer first, and the painting comes second. (Notice housework isn't on the list.)

    What do you write?

I write lots of stuff (and I need to work on focus!). I used to be a newspaper reporter, and I still do some journalism freelancing. I enjoy writing fiction, and have had a couple of short stories published in Woman's World. I don't do too much with children's literature, but am working now and then on a middle-grade chapter book. I've had some poems published.

And I have blogs! There's Forty Thieves, in which I took up a friend's challenge to write 40 words a day for a year about people who have crossed my path in a significant way (I finished it in January), Quiet Stars, my song blog (I'm more sporadic than faithful with this one lately), and Sweet Rocket, where I post poetry, serious stuff, funny stuff, the occasional photo, whatever. Heck, while I'm at it, here's my Flickr photos site.

    More than you asked for...

Sounds pretty interesting Susan. I will have to check those out later when I get back from Waldo's. :) ~Anj

Susan~ finally made it over to look at your blogs. Must admit I was a little lost on the first 2, but the Sweet Rocket was a fun one. You are a good photographer too. Liked your shots. :) ~Anj
