Sealer for Birdbaths???

Have we ever had the final word on what is safe to use on a birdbath? It's gotta work outdoors without killing the birds....

I don't think anyone has confirmed a 100% safe sealer; the only testimony is antecdotal.
I have used H&D concrete sealer on my concrete and clay birdbaths and have not had one problem with dead critters and I have a yard full of trees that draws birds, lizards, etc. My first birdbath that I made about 4 years ago has not been sealed and again no problem.
