I think gourds are fun to paint. My biggest problem is no place to put things on display. Not much wall space in this house, and only so many surfaces to sit things on. I squeezed this one into my snowman display in my front window. Luvs

I'll try to remember to post a pic of the window for you. They are not all painted ones--just a collection. I do the same with my Santas on top of the television--just group them all together--really the only places I have for them. I'll have to go find the camera. Luvs

Aw, your little gourd guy is cute. As you know I still have a basket of gourds and I had a snowman and a santa that I wanted to paint, but so far too many other projects going on. That is a problem with some of them. They don't really sit straight and it bugs me when they are rolling all around. I was thinking maybe a hunk of clay on the bottom to give it a little base?? An upside down milk lid? There should be something we can use to have them sit right. ha ~Anj

Anj, good idea to use the clay on the side that is not level. Might have to borrow some of GD's playdough and try it!

Luvs! You have quite a collection there. My DM has those same snowpeople that flank your fireplace. They always scare me because I turn around and think they are one of the kids and I'm not expecting them to be there. ha Just about the same height as my 2 yr old. She is always hugging on them. If I keep painting a few each year I hope to have such a nice assortment as you do some day. Love your mantle btw. It's beautiful. ~Anj

Glad you enjoyed seeing them. DH used to think I went overboard with all the decs, but think he sort of likes it now. Anj, my dog always barks at those snowpeople when I take them out of the boxes! GD didn't seem too impressed with them--I thought she would want to drag them around! Ha ha One of the ladies at work bought a set of the snowpeople for our branch decorations--we all loved them and I think five of us sent her to get them for us too! I still have snowmen patterns I want to paint--but don't know where I will use them. Luvs

I just love your collections.I fill my living room with snowmen,and my dining room and kitchen with santas.In the last picture of the two tall snowmen/woman,i see 2 bunnies.I have those exact same bunnies.Every time i dust them,i think i should put them out in the garden so i won't have to dust them and quite a few of their cousins anymore,if you know what i mean.

Great display, I can tell you love snowmen. I wish I had a front window to put stuff on. Our main windowsill is at the back of the house, a townhouse, so no one can see it, also, it's covered in plants.

Kathi, I've had those bunnies sooo long! I bought them at a ceramic shop and painted them myself. I used to have lots of bunny things, but have kept only my favorites now. They usually sit in the window where I put the snowmen along with a basket of silk flowers.

Blueiis, I doubt that anyone can see mine from outside--there is a window shelf out there and I fill it full of greenery and a lighted train (DH is railroad engineer, so we have to have a train in the decs somewhere!) Ha ha Good for you if you can grow houseplants--I only have plants outside where they get watered by the sprinklers--I'm not very reliable about doing that in the house.

Hi, I'm usually on the Hypertufa forum and just happened over this way. I have done some painting on gourds etc. and just thought I would let you know that what I use to keep the snowmen etc. from rolling or tipping is to use a plastic shower curtain ring to sit them on-works great! Wendy

That's a great idea Wendy. I have some little plastic curtain rings that might work, I'll have to try that when I dig him out this year.

Sooo cute! now I have to look for gourds! dont grow them myself and people here seem to think you only want birdhoues and cut holes in them, have to keep looking.
Love your snowman display! you do a beautiful job of displaying them also! I have seem woood stars glued on the bottom of snowman so they set stright.
as always you do such beautiful work on all your projects!

Here is a couple for some inspiration! not mine, I just saved the photo so I could remenber how they were done, not to late for the second one, and what a beautiful job the crafter did! the pumpkin and ghost is so cute, have to try that one next year!

Oddie, those are so cute. I really love the second one. That design is perfect for the shape of that gourd--almost looks like a pumpkin, but smooth.

I sort of sat and studied the gourds my sister sent me to see what they might want to be! LOL The shape of the gourd sort of determines what design you can use. Most of mine had the round bottom and "handle" top on them--so I saw "people". My most favorite is still my Andy and Annie.

Oddie, I was in Michael's yesterday and guess what? They had some gourds! One was a good shape for painting a scence like your pic with the sheep and crow. Sort of a dark brownish. I really thought about getting it for a minute or two, they were only $6.00. But I figured I have a million other things I need to get done first, and I am really trying to use up some of the things I already have on hand. ;o( Just can't do it all--but am adding this to my long and expanding list! LOL

Hi Luvs: I just seen your gourd snowman. What kind of a
gourd was that. I raised bird house gourds last year. but mine to also decided not to stand straight. I painted a little and put decals on the gourds, and the wrens just loved them. They moved in and raised little ones. You girls are so good I love to see all of your paintings.

Hi Oknish, Golly, I have no idea on what type of gourds those are. I have a couple left, one half painted. My sister and BIL had planted them a few years back. I think the shape of these would work for a birdhouse, but I haven't tried that yet. Does it have to be a special kind of gourd for a birdhouse?

I thought the idea of gluing something like a ring or wooden base on the bottom was a good idea. I'll have to try that when I dig my snowman out this year.

I am glad you are enjoying coming by to see what we have been up to. This little forum often gets pretty slow, but Anj and I keep stopping by every morning. Then sometimes, some of the other gals come by and chat with us or post some new eye candy for us to enjoy.

If you do any painting on your birdhouses, we'd love to see them. And even if you don't paint and just enjoying seeing what's going on, we would love to hear your comments or ideas anytime.

So can you share what your name stands for? It is unique. ;o)

Good Morning everyone. I have a question can someone tell me what kind of gourds these are that the snowman was made from. I exchanged some seeds with someone and I got back bird house gourds. Well me gourds do not let me make a snowman or other things from them, other then drill a hole in them and let the birds use them. They are just big and round. I would really like to know so that I can get the seed for next year and plant them. They are just so cool, that I could use them as christmas gifts next year. I will check around to see if I can find some also in the seed catalogs. ANy help would be great. Have a great day. OrDella
