Curbside Bed Update

I put DD's bed together this afternoon. Be forewarned - the picture is TERRIBLE (my camera battery died as soon as I took the pic) but I think you get the idea. And alll of the black crayon on the wall makes me laugh. I wanted a reason to change the paint color to better reflect DD's brash persona and she presented me w/ the reason 3 days after painting her room and w/ 15 minutes of nap time left LOL!

DH cut slats for me today at work. It all looks rough right now but I am excited to repaint her room now and fluff things up for her.

Found headboards on curb last Thursday:

And today:

OMG! That is so gorgeous. What a wonderful find. I hope your DD enjoys her beautiful new room.

I always enjoy seeing photos of your home. You have an amazing talent.

    More photos, please?

It is beautiful and I think your daughter is showing signs of having the decorating gene. I think I'd leave her "wallpaper" design - it is quite amazing.

Love the wall decor...oops...I mean I love the bed ! Great find. She is going to be just like her Mom...loves black on her walls/ceilings . c

very classically beautiful!! I love that you allow your daughter to express herself too!

Thank you so much - that's so nice!

Between DS2 and DD my entry hall looks the same as DD's bedroom walls. Well up until this past week when I finally repainted the hallway after 2yrs. It was mostly red crayon up and down the halls.

CBS Sunday Morning News did a feature on Kelly Wearstler and they showed her entry hall. It looked like mine except w/ red paint instead of crayon. DH looked at me and said 'And to think - we didn't have to pay a dime to get the same hallway. She clearly takes after you!' LOL!

We used to call DD the Crayola Princess - crapping a world of color behind her wherever she goes.

    That looks wonderful.

You did a great job! You definitely have an eye for color and decorating! Thanks for sharing. I also love that your allow your daughter to express herself.

Great curbside find! I love how you arranged it too, more like a daybed. I agree your DD's scribbles on the wall have a certain charm to them. I'd be tempted to leave them. I think she is actually trying to emulate you as the "scribbles" look a lot like brush strokes on the wall and you always seem to be tackling one painting project or another.

    Holy cow, lol....
    LOVE the bed/daybed!

The bed looks awesome. You may want to consider a wall of calk paint and as you have things torn apart, collect the crayons and keep them some where they can only be used under strict supervision.

ttodd - Great find and wonderful transformation. Lucky you with the handy DH! What a great team you make.

How old is your crayola princess? I would say I am with val on this one. I think your DD's "artwork/decorating" is something she is proud of, and agree about her emulating all of your effort in creating a beautiful home. She's just not learned the nuance, but the absolute passion for creativity is there. So long as the crayon work wasn't done in defiance, or something of that sort, I think I might leave her artwork for a time. I know you put a great deal of work and thought into that beautiful bed, but on the flip side, she will never be this age again. She will learn not to use crayons on her walls in time, but for now I think I would not cover her work.

Childhood seems to fly by in the blink of an eye. Believe me, my DD will be heading back to college to start her Junior year in August. I so wish I had been able to freeze time, as it went much too quickly. Just a sentimental reaction perhaps. lol

Anyhoo, yet another job very well done!

DD's room has had that crayon on the walls for almost 1 1/2yrs now. She was very proud of it and I could see her admiring it when I would change her diaper. Since it wasn't a priority and she clearly enjoyed the fruits of her labor I've just let it go. She knows that she's not allowed to color on walls but what are you going to do? A can of paint is cheaper than me getting bailed out of jail!

She will be getting a magnetic/chalkboard closet door when I get around to that.

I'm considering painting what we've now dubbed 'The Quiet Room' w/ chalkboard paint on all of the walls for the kids.

For years DH and I have discussed fixing up my street finds and fairly reselling them soley based upon the time and materials that what we put into them. It would sort of go hand in hand w/ the furniture refinishing business that we're buying. Just waiting on the last pieces of that sale and it will be done.

I found fantastic removed crayons from our playroom wall with no damage to paint color:) Give it a try before digging out the paint. But I agree it is only a wall and young ones have very little controll on their environment so what the hey:0)

The walls look very Cy Twombly. Just ban Sharpies from the house. It bleeds through paint.

Its better that than scissors. My niece used to turn everything into paper lace. Shower curtains, Sheets, etc.

My neice decorated my walls with diaper poop. I promise it didn't stay. My youngest grandson at age 2 1/2 decided to help decorate for an 80th birthday party by getting up at 3 in the morning with one of those big permanent markers and drawing flowers, smiley faces and lines over new kitchen cabinets, doors, walls. It was a mad rush before the party but most of it came off with toothpaste of all things. Keep the pictures of the wall decorating as it will be fun to look back on years from now. The new bed looks fantastic.

It's just beautiful. Looks like your DD might become a talented decorator like her mom (and grandmother)!

What an amazing transformation! I am absolutely blown away! You should definitely add the "found and fixed" aspect to your new business.

Love that you have had DD's art up for so long, too!

ttodd - I hope you'll let us know when your furniture refinishing business is up and running. There are probably quite a few of us in the area that would love to stop in. There's a 'shabby chic' store in Collingswood, NJ where the proprietors refinish old pieces - they have chandeliers, doors, cribs, beds, headboards, armoires etc. The appear to be thriving although I wonder by sticking to one particular 'look' if they might be limiting themselves.

Pal - Cy Twombley indeed! I have had cases of black sharpie on my walls too. DS2 secretly drew a picture of our family on the wall behind a chair. When I fully repaint the LR (soon!) I am placing a 5x7 gold frame around the 'family portrait'. We all have big heads and no bodies w/ stick legs and arms.

maire cate - the business has been going since 1945 - we're buying it from DH's boss. There is a tiny room in the front w/ a large bay window where they store all of the finished pieces. I'm going to have a few pieces available for sale at all times in the window and under my own business name.

I just want to share my passion for furniture and have really nice quality pieces that I find thrown out be w/in reach of lots of people who may not otherwise be able to afford them.

LOVE that bed......the wood is just BEAUTIFUL!

The whole shot is gorgeous. Even the scribbles are a tasteful black color :-) where did you get the bedskirt from? It is really pretty.

What color are you planning on painting her room?
