LOL toomuch! I would think the glue will stiffen it. Is the inside leather?

Love the shoes if they were my size I'd wear them! lol, But wow,that's gonna make a beautiful piece of art work,and the best part is it being sectioned off like that. I can't wait to see it.

Be careful - the glue WILL NOT stiffen it enough to prevent the grout from cracking. Been there, done that. Be SURE it's REAL firm before mosaicing. One artist I wrote to puts eight coats of polyurethene (I THINK) on before mosaicing. I'm not sure about the urethene, but it was eight coats of some kind of stiffener. That's a great specimen for mosaicing.

SLow - do you think the polyurethane would work on a leather shoe?? I have one I want to do that I don't want to fill with cement, but don't want the grout to crack either.

What about shellac? Even with filling mine with cement, there was still alittle give in the soles and I am seeing cracks in the grout where the sole meets the side stitching. not sure what I'm going to do yet.

I don't have to stiffen it at all - the whole shoe is stiff as a board. ( No wonder they are brand new - no one could wear them ) They're fabric ,too... the glue should hold great. I couldn't wear them even if I tried - they're a size 10 to begin with -- and I'm so klutzy I'm lucky if I don't fall off my tennis shoes !

They are both sitting on my dining room shelf next to my mosiac bunny . They are definately a conversation piece !

If the leather is supple, wrap it with a couple of layers of Rigid-Wrap (the stuff they use for casts on broken arms). After it dries, you can sand it smooth and seal it (you can use gesso or a mixture of 1 part Weldbond to 5 parts water).

For boots or shoes with the toes "in" - fill with concrete, layer by layer, allowing to cure after each layer.
