Looks like I'm gonna be putting the benches on hold for a bit. My friend who is supposed to give me the tiles is kinda backing away from giving them to me. Now she says she wants some, too, and until she feels well enough to sort through them I'll have to wait. I've known her for like 3 years and during that time she's hardly felt well. She offered them to me 2 years ago and it was only in December that she finally showed them to me. Stacks of tiles sitting in her back yard for like 10 years that she's done nothing with and now the thought of giving them away... I d'know. I'm kinda bummed but I understand that she keeps these things b/c they remind her of her late husband so it's probably hard for her to let go. She said to call her the end of this month to arrange a date to get some of them. So now I'm breaking up all my dishes and I'll work from there. And there's still plenty of prep work needed on the benches to keep me busy. But still, I'm kinda bummed.

Crystal01 I want to thank you for the link to Virginia's page. I searched her name but kept on getting pages for some Virginia Gardener magazine HAHAHA

CPAnnie - we were given those big blocks of styrofoam by this artist guy who owed money to my DH. I don't know where he got them from but I was as happy as a pig in poo when he offered them to us!!

And it's been rainy and we had a freak wind storm yesterday so I haven't been able to work outside on the benches so no new pics yet. Maybe by the weekend.

Sorry if this is long and if it should be on the conversations side but I wanted to give you all an update on my project.

Thanks for letting me vent!! I feel a bit better now!! Look, even a happy face is appearing! ;-)

Vent all you want, CAIT. I know what it's like to have things on hold. On breaking your own dishes, I took two of my cobalt blue hand blown wine glasses I bought in Damascus to my wet saw yesterday - using the footers on the stem for eyes on my Riana project. You know you are addicted to mosaics when you break your kitchen dishes to use in a project. BTW - for those of you who want to cut wine bottles in half, I'm not afraid now to use the wet saw on glass. It cut those stems like butter.

Cait, do you have a Habitat for Humanity "Restore" nearby?

I was visiting ours the other day and they had boxes and boxes of different colored tile for $2.00 a box.

Sorry about your tile ordeal...bummmer.......for sure.....venting is a good thing........now you won't have a stroke because of keeping it bottled-up! It's a good thing! Sometimes I really believe things happen for a good reason....so something better will come of this...!!!

Aw Cait! I'd be tripping on my bottom lip...but you are a stronger gal than I!!lol!
I'm glad I'm not the only Crazy who cuts up glass on my tile saw!!LOL! I hope Klinger and Squirrelly are reading this thread!lol!

LOL I'm curious where they came from! They are cool! LOL!!
(I feel like one of those Geico commercials where the person only hears "I saved a ton of $$ on insurance" line from an entire tirade.)

Thanks everyone for your kind words. I'm resisting buying tiles because after seeing stacks of freebie gorgeous tiles just waiting to be used... well, I aint rich! HAHAHA

OK, that styrofoam - I'm in Australia so where the guy got them from who gave them to me won't be much help to you guys much BUT I googled and below is a link to a place that sells giant blocks of styro and any other kind foam you can think of. They have some great ides as to what you can make and I am sure a lot of great mosaic projects will come out from those of you wanting to do a HUGE project!

They were all free!!! I'm smashing the toilet!! I have broken pcs of toilets and sinks in mauve, green, yellow, blue, and plan to do mosaics with them, cuz ya know they can stand the weather!!! I've been storing this crap(no pun intended, lol!) for the last 3yrs as I moved here and even hauled this stuff with me, and DH was freaking out but I even went out and bought a little truck to haul all my "STuff" Bricks, broken toilets, I was NOT leaving it behind!!! That's how far behind I am with my Ideas...but actually these toilet chunks are evolving into something else...percolatin' in my mind....stay tuned....

Oh, Lordy, here she goes again. Always tuned in here - waiting to see what y'all all dream up. I'd think you'd use one teesy toilet for a planter. My DD is aghast when I mention it. Don't care - it'd make a wonderful planter in my back yard. I threaten her w/putting it in front.

A THRONE CHAIR mosaiced with toilet shards!!!!! YES!!! Been looking and found free styrofoam for it!!! I think I'll copy Cait's bench style to use for my throne..oh ya!!!

Styrofoam throne chair with shards of toilet... now if that won't be sumthin'!
I have the old toilet sitting in my garden - haven't done anything with it yet, but it's there.
And of course Calam found styro... whoda thunk differnt?? LOL
