I started a project today, yea!

I've been wanting to paint in our two extra bedrooms, just because I guess. With that I'm wanting to move the guest bedroom to the back bedroom (the smaller of the two) and the other bedroom have it be something more of a suite type of room. Finally today I decided if I was ever going to do it I had to start! I've cleaned both rooms totally (crazy I know because I'm flipping them but still they are clean) removed some books to the car to go to Half Priced Books, and the biggie - cleaned out the desk. I'm thrilled with being started with this project.

I can't decide should I paint then find linens or find linens then paint. I tend to choose dark and I'm determined to have a softer lighter / brighter look in both rooms. I'm just a tad overwhelmed now. But it feels good to have started this.

Choose your furniture first. Then choose your linens and curtains. Then paint. It is easier to match paint to furnishings than it is to do it the other way around.

You have done the first step, and that is, to clean and declutter. That alone can be motivating when you see the results.

    Deep breath.

    Baby steps.

Don't try to do it all at once. Home decorating and design is a journey.

    We are here to help.

    Can you post pics?

Ok thanks. Need linens next then.

My friends and I all sort of "trade" furniture! So the cherry set from her guest bedroom is coming to my house and my guest room. She has some antique oak she wants to use but need my bed frame and rails! No its not ideal but if I hate it we'll simply take it to the Battered Women's shelter and go shopping! And the modern oak that is in my room now will go to another friends house for her room - where my daybed lives! This trading has always worked for us its new in our houses and fun.

I've spent the day fining a home for all the the desk drawer stuff and tossing. The desk is going to the shelter - to their office! Guess this is kindof a re-use recycle project!

I've really progressed thus far. Our stuff went to the neighbors house. Then I decided why not get rid of the ugly dvd case - and funky left over from sons college dorm tv stand - it went to another neighbors house. We moved all the cherry furniture to our garage. I've off loaded the stuff in one room and chosen linens drapes and paint! I've painted 1 wall and couldn't decide if I liked it. Today I went "what the heck" and will paint the rest of the room. The color is nothing I've ever chosen which is why I'm liking it. I was afraid it was far too bright, but its bright in color but the tones are darker, which I like. Off to trim the ceiling!!!

What a fun idea to trade furniture with your friends! Don't forget CL too, as that's just a broader bunch of people trading stuff. Pick paint last.

Have you looked at the Cottage Decor and at the Bedrooms threads in our Gallery for inspiration and color schemes, and other ideas?
