I think my favorite tool is wheeled nippers, Leponitt is the recommended brand. You'll have to find them online as I don't believe they are in stores.

Stick around here for a while and you pick up lots of links we all buy from alot of different suppliers for different things.

Do you know if you want to work with glass and ceramics or just one of those? what's your fancy? lol

Welcome, Artchick! We're glad you found us too. We love new members to share with. As some of have more experience than others, we are all learners. So please feel free to ask away and share your learning experiences.

I would agree that the Leponitt wheeled cutters are a must for mosaics but you probably also will want a pistol grip cutter to score your glass. Then you might want running pliers to help finish breaking the glass after it has been scored. I then use my wheeled cutters to cut the glass in the shape I want for my mosaic project.

I recently purchased some glass tiles from www.mosaicartsupply.com and was very happy with their prices and service.

G'mornin' and a very big welcome to the best forum on the net. You've received expert advice already, but along w/the perfect basic tool list , let me add one more $84.00 tool. I simply couldn't live w/o the Morton Portable Glass Shop. I have the PG01B. It's not necessary but it's a wonderful tool. As has been said, you'll pick up lots of info as you progress, but had I bought the Morton system long ago, I would NOT have spent so much on buying ready-made tiles. W/the Morton system I now cut all my own tiles from sheets of glass and mirror. I didn't go through NICETHYME's thread where she Googled sites, but WHEN I was buying tiles, my favorite places were Mosaic Art Supply - least expensive tiles by the sheet and Mosaics by Maria - the best source for colored mirror tiles. Of course Hobby Lobby has Spectrum sheets on sale periodically for 30% off, so I take advantage of that sale every time. I live 150 miles from a stain glass store, so when I began I ordered from Delphi Stained Glass and I.S.G.S. Again, we're glad you've found us, and we look forward to your participation. This is truly a wonderful forum w/so much talent it w/boggle your mind. Our styles are all different but we love everyone's work. You'll love it here.
