May I suggest before you smash up the plate or other ceramic object to give a look see online to see if you can find a value. Mom brought me a small collection of ceramic coasters someone gave her to give to me. They all had southwestern roadrunners on them 2 were broken and glued together but the other 3 were fine. They are cute but there was just something about them that screamed retro collectable. So I did a internet search on various terms and the city it was made in and the company stamp on the back...I found out each little unbroken coaster is worth $75. They will not be smashed.
