jlynn,I think your frame is really pretty...I think a sandy color would be pretty .You could mix something wih the antique white if you have some paint handy.Really good job...Annie

Jlynn, you did a great job on your first mosaic! Your spacing is good! One of the mistakes many first mosaicers make is to leave large spaces (I know, I did that) but you did so well. I like your theme too! I love ocean scenes. I've done something similar on a water can. As for grout color, your antique white will be fine; it will look about the same as it does now. You can color your grout it with acrylic paints.

I think it looks great! I am heading to the Outer Banks next week and I always find serious inspiration there. I am only a novice but I like the idea of the sandy colored grout-kinda continues the theme too.

thanks for the paint tip annie and d3bbi - I have all kinds and colors of paint, now the grout I have is already pre-mixed in a tub, I had that before I found this place can I add paint to that?

And I can use that kind of grout for this? it says indoor/outdoor on it.

Good job!!! I ended up painting my grout after I grouted my cake, never did that before, but just watered it down a bit, and then used a paper towel to wipe off the paint on the glass/tile. Your little palm tree scene is adorable!!!

Very nice ! Love the colors in it. Don't worry about the mess, I still make a mess with GEII. I end up scraping it of with my fingernails!! The gorut will take some off for you, too

Thanks Maria, I really fussed and fussed, I thought about coming in here and asking about each color but figured no, just go for it and glue the darn stuff down, listen to slow and learn...but I am glad to learn that someone else still makes a mess with that stuff!

slow-gosh I'm really honored, and smiling like a fool...thanks really, I'm glad you think I did purdy good! As far as my next one I'm sitting here looking at two terra-cotta pots (already sealed-thank you!) and two stepping stones, and I have another frame but it's about 1/3 the size of the last one, so it might be a little hard, ohhhhh and I got a table from michaels the other day on the clearance isle for $5 bucks!!! it's just one of their small $15 corner ones, but my daughter wants it for the corner in her hallway...so I don't really know what to do?! But right now I only have GEII and weldbond and I'm not sure I can use either of those for the pots or the stepping stones (which I want to put outside-but they wont be stepped on)

Thanks Pat, where are you that it is flooding? I'm here in Texas just south of Gainsville where it flooded so bad the other day and it seems like it will never quit raining here, so stay safe and dry!!

Jlynn, you did a wonderful job on the frame. Your spacing is so even and close together, no wonder you were freaking out about messing it up while glueing the pieces down...not much room to pick up the pieces! My fingers are too big, I know I wouldn't have been able to do it, I would have messed it all up picking up the first piece!!! LOL Next time try using tweezers to pick up your pieces, it might work better. Love your scene!

thanks ladyronnie - yes I really love that glass too. I have a pretty good size sheet that I bought a few years ago to do something with..don't remember what that was...*laf* but I'm sure I'll figure something out..But that piece was just sitting in this box of scrap pieces I had and it just sorta jumped out at me and I thought it would make a perfect sailboat.

laughing at nice and calamity....yeah I know I'm slow actually I've had step-daughters here the past week and it's been a little ummmmm crazy would be a good word to describe it...yup crazy...

so here it is grouted but man there are a lot of places that I guess I didn't get enough of it on cuz there are some places that it isn't even with the top of the glass and you can see some places where it sorta dips like someone touched it while it was wet...so can I re-grout it? not take it out and re-do it just go over it again? Does that even make sense?

sorry it's so fuzzy my daughter took it and I didn't take the time to mess with it before I put it here other than to crop and try to make it smaller...guess I didn't a good job of that either...*shrug*

Looks great, JLYNN. Yes, you can go over it w/another swipe of grout. There ARE mosaic tweezers. Got mine, I THINK, from WitsEnd. I'll just bet you're anxious to start another project, hmmmmmm???

Jlynn, looks very good! Yes, I've re-grouted some items to change the color or make corrections. Usually when I grout, I will save a little bathroom cup of leftover grout so if the next day I see something that needs touchup, then I have the same color, etc. Put it in a baggie and save in the fridge. Sooo next time you might want to try that. Most of the time I don't need it but occassionally I do and it is nice to have.
As for tweezers, I just use regular ones bought from the drugstore. I use them a lot for picking up glass our of my Morton tray or placing glass in small places.

Jlynn, Like d3bbi, I just bought some tweezers from the drugstore...I didn't even know they made mosaic tweezers!

thanks for the advice about adding grout...does it matter how long I wait? We are leaving for vacation on Tuesday and wont be home until the 19th and I'm losing my mind trying to get everything ready and make sure the three of us don't forget anything...

So can I do it when I get home? or should I go ahead and do it now? I don't want to totally screw it up, but I really don't have the extra time right now, unless I get everything done ahead of time.

You can wait until you get home. It might help to adhere if you give the "old" grout a light spritz of water first.

I love the colors in those swirly pieces of glass. Delicious.
