Lyndalu, I just love all of your yard mosaics. These are great. Beautiful!!! Please tell us more. Did you seal the blocks - on the openings or leave open? Paint the blocks first? Did you mortar them together? I've been wanting some tall pedestals for outside and these look like just the answer. I bet there are difficult to move about though.

LYNDALU: Those are simply BEAUTIFUL - your work is so much prettier on yours than mine, but I was looking for a slap and dab quick fix. The three blocks I have were given to me by ROSIE to set up the fall display on my front porch. I had used two of them to build a block/board shelf in the workshop, so when I went to Lowes to get two new ones for the shelf, I saw all the different sizes/shapes, and made a mental note to go back and get more. I LOVE the way you planted in one. These cinder blocks really have a lot of potential for yard decorations. I didn't prepare mine in any way - barely dusted them w/slapping a rag over them to get off the loose dirt. Yours are very artistic.

After I get my plantings in order, I'll start on some outside mosaic pieces. Really love these LYNDALU! You made something ugly into a beautiful piece of garden art!

Bugster, DebbiÂ..I didnÂt mortar the blocks together. I thought they would be more versatile if I left them separate, and easier to move around. So, DebbiÂthey really arenÂt that bad to move aroundÂwhich we always need to take under consideration, because of bringing stuff in for hurricanes, right? And youÂre right  they are great for pedestals  and you can make them any height you wantÂand keep them easy to move by just stacking them.

Debbi - I left all the openings as they were (didnÂt seal them up). The openings in the small ones were just perfect to set the BB on. I painted any surfaces that werenÂt mosaicÂd with black exterior paint AFTER I was completely finished. I thought the black made it look more finishedÂand the grout was black.

BianchiÂI wasnÂt sure if cinder blocks and concrete blocks were exactly the same thing or notÂ.so I googled itÂ.and found that cinder blocks differ from concrete blocks in their aggregate content. Cinder blocks contain coal cinders. Interesting, huh.

I got all my blocks from curb shopping (all at one time) Â so keep on the lookout for them!

AnnieÂ.hope you have a wonderful time in Vegas. That bird came from a JoAnns clearance sale  end of last summer. Nice and plain, so it was fairly easy to mosaic.

Oh nooooooooooo! I probably have at least 20 of those concrete blocks, I can't live long enough to mosaic everything I want to mosaic!
I do want to do some of those though, soon as I can find the time...
I had my first real failure, a stepping stone. The GEII never fully dried for some reason and I didn't realize it. Grouted it and half of the stuff came loose. Seems like when you get down to the last of the tube it has a different consistency.

Oh, man....I work at the airport. They are doing some MAJOR constuction and in a dumpster ( behind a locked fence) were perfecly good cinder blocks!!

No curbshopping here with the FAA and homeland security watching!!

Mad,I work at the PO at the airport! Part of my job entails access to the ramp.Any mail going on commercial flights is monitored by us. They MAY do away with it at some point.

I wouldn't even know where to begin to get permission to dumpster dive! Then I'd have to fill up my postal van- I don't have access for my personal vehicle.
