MDF as a base???

Hi, I am thinking of attempting my first mosaic. You all have inspired me. My question is...has anyone used mdf as a base for an outdoor project? I have seen the bases on various web sites and am concerned on it absorbing water. Is there anything you would NOT recommend for a foundation? Thanks, Dena

I would NOT recommend MDF at a substrate for outdoors. Wood soaks up water from the air, as well as precipitation, and will twist and warp terribly.

I wish I could remember who posted a photo of their patio table mosaiced over plywood - it was a mess!

I think it was SILVAMAE who posted the plywood table. I would suggest hardibacker.
