I have a mirror I did that has broken masks, and it is one of my favorite pieces. This idea reminds me of that mirror.

Cool! In a very thought provoking way - found myself focusing on the features of the individual faces and marveling at the skill it took to get them all on there! Did you have to cut many of them or are the heads all intact? Neat idea to combine them - reminds me of a dog statue I saw somewhere online that was covered with bird heads (cleverly titled "Bird Dog").

I don't envy you in grouting a piece such as this, even though your placements look like it wasn't all that difficult. It'll be a grand conversation piece. W/it be a garden ornament?

Well this little ball can be your "eyes" of the garden! I'm undecided as to whether I "like" it, but it is INTERESTING for sure! I think it's the grout color I don't necessarily like. The faces recede too much. A bolder grout color would improve it, IMHO.

I like it Wench! It sure takes time to collect all the goodies for a project like that eh?!!! I think it is something that needs to be where you could sit and look at it for a while as there is so many different yet familiar faces on it. I'd be like..oh, my gramma had a face like that in her collection...This pc is pure art in my opinion, I wouldn't want it out in the yard, it needs a gallery to be displayed in. Jane

Chopping off the heads is very therapeutic in a way . . . . and very creepy, too. I told my son that I was channeling my inner extremist and he winced . . . guess I'll not say that again. I cut the head off the body and then nip the back of the head off the front. So all I really have in most areas is the facial portion of the head.

I chose the bone colored grout purposely to make the faces recede into it since most of the faces are caucasian in color (the blue one is just plain weird). I feel one has to look very closely to see what's happening.

I had one friend gasp when she recognized a hummel (it was cracked and repaired when I bought it). She felt it was close to sacrilege to do that to a hummel.

As for grouting I mixed a small amount in a plastic baggie and then cut off the tip of the bag and piped the grout on like frosting. I mixed it wetter than I normally would and had to wait several hours before I felt it was set up enough to smooth and manipulate. That technique saved an enormous amount of clean-up time on the faces.

The grout baggie was a good idea! I imagined that was a grouting nightmare!

Wench, You said you nipped off the back of the heads...will you make another one with the backs then? They would make a great pair! I like the idea of the heads sinking face first into the grout/ball.

Oh yeah! I just love this. You could feasibly keep this going for years, piling more and more faces into the spaces. Layered faces!

The more I look at this the more I like it. The idea of the bone colored grout is very cool.

When I grouted my mirror, I did the same technique with the sandwich baggie, too. It was so much easier to clean up around the delicate faces of my mirror.

I'v been on the lookout for more masks to make another one with more mask pieces, and less tile than the first. But here is what my finished mirror looked like.

WoW, a lot of work went into this project, I can't imagine glueing all those heads! I like things flat and easy, I'm not as brave as you!

I don't think brave is the right word . . . .warped may be more appropriate!

MW, my first thought was "interesting" but that has been used by quite a few people so I'll say "artistic" because that is what I think of people that can come up with such creative works of art. I would love to hold it and just look into those faces; I don't want to think about cutting those dolls (poor little things) but love to look at their faces.

HRSG, I like the eyes looking back at you in your mirror. Again, very creative. Reminds me of "Mirror, mirror on the wall" because it's lookin at ya.
