repainting master bath color question...

I really struggle with choosing paint colors. Swatches always look so dark and painting on a big piece of cardstock doesn't really show me how it will look on my textured walls. So I feared going too dark and went completely too light. We just had our entire house painted over the weekend and I am not happy with the colors.

BM Manchester Tan is all over the entire house and is WAY too light. We have huge vaulted ceilings and I thought bleeker beige (my other choice) would have been too dark since we have no lights in that area. I think for sure now, I could have gone bleeker and been much happier.

We chose BM Smokey Taupe in the downstairs bath and laundry room, I LOVE that color, turned out beautifully. It is a very warm, plummy, smokey taupe color. Looks amazing with my warm grey and deep purple decor in there.

Now for the BIG problem. I chose Elmira White for our master bath and it is way too light. My room is painted Valspar Hopsack, so I was trying to blend with that and went way to light, might as well have kept it white. We have white everything in there...cabinets, roman tub, counters, stall shower, toilets, etc. So the Elmira just almost looks like dirty off white walls. I am very unhappy with that decision.

I was trying to choose between Elmira and Revere Petwer, which I think would blend nicely with my Hopsack room and be a nice contrast with all the white in the bathroom. My husband was scared of it being dead gray color. Anyone have Revere Pewter in the master? Care to share pics? You think it would blend great with a warm (slight magenta toned) tan in our master bedroom? We did a swatch but of course I can't get a good idea.

All the hardware is down and the bathroom is still ready to paint since we just had it done 3 days ago. So I would love to get going on this ASAP. Thanks for any help!

I'd buy a sample pot and do a large swatch on the wall. No one way to truly see a color with the lighting and surroundings.

thanks! I already did a big swatch on my wall with a sample pot, when I was trying to choose between the elmira and revere pewter. My husband was scared revere would be too dark but now that I see how the elmira turned out on our walls, I think the revere would be just fine.

My main concern is it blending with a warm tan color in our master. I don't want it to look like to drastically different paints.

My bedroom is Monroe Bisque, and these two colors clash. Latte is the golden color on the sample board, looked horrible in there. I'm going to be repainting, still undecided on which room and what color.
I'm not sure what Hopsack looks like but if it's golden I would not like it with Revere Pewter.
If you want more close-up photos in different lighting I can take some. This photo appears lighter than my eye sees it.

From color scheme to furniture think space-conscious solutions. Colors should be light or receding to make the bathroom appear larger. Your bathroom must be practical, but it must also be beautiful too. Your bathroom should look gorgeous, and be a room you want to spend time in, to relax for a long soak in a lovely hot bath. Take your personal preferences into account when choosing between a pale or strong color - do you like an open, airy feeling?

esorb, I'm sorry you're disappointed in the Manchester Tan. I just sampled a whole of beiges and I was really favoring the MT because it doesn't look fleshy to me like a bunch of the others. I'm sorry you find it too light for your space.

hmmm, my bedroom paint is more of a magenta/purple toned beige, not really yellow at all. More rosey/purple than yellows. I did a fairly large sample of revere pewter last night on poster board and it looks ok. I actually don't hate the paint in there now but bc our entire bathroom is WHITE, all the cabinets, sinks, showers, roman tub, etc, I think I need to get more contrast from the walls than I have now. Right now it looks like offwhite paint and it doesn't give me the feel I wanted. It looks more like my walls are dingy, you know?

Thanks for sharing the Monroe Bisque. I actually really like it with your white molding and tub, but not with the oak wood. I have no oak, so maybe revere would look good with my white stuff!

sorry, I meant thanks for sharing the revere pewter, not the monroe bisque!

my master bath is Revere Pewter. I love it, although it seems too light to me--I wish i had gone at least one or maybe even two shades darker. We were thinking we should go light since the slate is so dark. The paint looks great in the room, though, in my opinion. We tried a couple other sample shades of gray on the wall before we painted, but the others had too much blue--the grays were too "cold." the revere pewter feels much warmer. to me it's more of a brown/taupy gray than a blue gray. I don't know what your bedroom color looks like, but the RP is a warm gray to me.

I just took these photos--so Noon, sunny outside, no flash. i can take more tonight with the lights on if you would like. I also tried to take pics angling up so you can see the contrast with the white ceiling.

the first pic looks lighter on my screen than it really is.

    HTH!

mom270, I thought for sure I already replied to you but it isn't showing. I wanted to let you know that I do LOVE the tone of the manchester tan, very creamy and soft, totally not fleshy, I agree. I just wish it was a tad darker. It is growing on me though and I am starting to like it more. I just still wish it could have offered a bit more contrast in the room. But I am very happy with the actual color.

anyone else have revere pewter bathroom pics? I would especially love to see it with white cabinets and fixtures.

sewwhatsnew's picture scares me a bit bc it looks so GRAY but I think that could be from the oak? I definitely want a warmer toned gray and I thought this was my best option. I would hate to have a totally cold looking gray in my bathroom.
