That tool on the left is what Riana asked us to bring to our workshop in PV. It is about the ONLY tool SHE uses. I used it the other day to cut some pieces of tile. It works really well and I think I'll make more use of mine.

I forced myself to come on and ask this morning because the duel tool auction is ending soon. Checking in while company is out on errands - the tool on the left is ok for tiles but not REALLY for glass. I'd get the Lepps and get the other tool at Lowes or somewhere - why pay shipping? To me, Lepps are the cadillac for glass AND tiles. While you're ordering, get an extra pair of wheels.

When I first started doing mosaic a few months ago I wouldn't have known a leponitt from a bluebonnet, I went to my friendly neighborhood hardware store and bought me a pair of those tile nippers and that's what I used to break up plates, that and a hammer. I was only using china at the time along with some vitreous tile I'd ordered. The more I read the more I figured out what the wheeled nippers even did. I ordered a pair and lo and behold it was like trading in the old washtub for one of them thar electric washing machines. :)

Do you change the wheels very often, I've only turned the wheels on mine to the half way mark so far. Wonder why those little suckers are so high!

I never mentioned it but I bought a double barrel rock tumbler a couple of months back at Harbor Freight and it is amazing how much better those points feel. I've a question about it though, do those barrels always smell that strong? They smell like creosote (coal tar).

Lilym- yep, those tumblers STINK. I have it in my garage now and still smell them!!

I do feel a little better thank you!! Slept for three hours and woke up with some energy.Guess I had the 36 hour bug???

I did buy the two pair in the picture. Since we are a 200 mile round trip to a Lowes and even a 100 mile round trip to a HomeDepot shipping is cheep compared to gas. Loving the internet.

I could swoon at all the things on the Wholsalers site. Easily spending 100 dollars for the free shipping. I am going to save up for a trip to that pleasure palace.

The other pair of wheeled cutter,Faux Leps, I had worked fine for three years and cut a lot of stuff. Even really thick stuff so to have them give up on me certainly could be expected. Yep I turned the wheels around and around. Especially this last project since it was all glass. They will still work fine on thicker things like plates so I will keep using them until they even give up on them. I do have a stack of plates to nip up. Been holding off until I ordered a new pair to have on the way.

Next time I will order the leps. Promise.

Thanks for the advice!! I will let you all know what I think of those other nipper things. I even saw after the have a glass scorer on them??

I did the same thing, when I jumped into this I ordered a no name wheeled nipper - assuming that Lepps would be priceier (wrong) and while my knock offs are fine for now, I do believe that my hand fatigue will be much better with a lepp instead... so I will continue to drool over them until mine die. I've turned the wheels a 1/4 so far but yes I think plates are hard on them.

maria, thanks, I kept meaning to post and ask about that. I sometimes put one of the tumblers on the table where I work and cut my "stuff" and drop it in the barrel to be tumbled when I have a load but it stinks so bad sometimes I just can't tolerate it!
