Yep,slap some pretty china and glass on it and you'll have a wonderful antique shabby table!

I have one just like it LIL: I put mine on my back patio for a plant table. Go for it. You might inspire me to pull mine inside and mosaic it.

Lilym, I did a small table like this and it was a blast to do. Mine only had the top and no bottom shelf. I sort of made it look like it was wings. Here is a picture taken when I entered it in the fair.I am sure some of you have seen this .I did it about three years ago. One of my first pieces and the first piece I painted. I bought this table in the 70's when I was so broke and paid 50 cents for it. Spent hours stripping it down to clean oak Never dreaming I would paint it again. Now I paint everything. Heheheh

If you like the idea feel free to copy it in any way you choose. If I had it to do over again I would have done a better job. Closer set pieces of china. Maybe mosaic on the bottom rail. But it is done and I am not changing it now.

I think your table is so much better because you have the flat up and down supports to play with too. OH take it away my mind is going crazy on this one and it is not mine. Heheheh

The cheaper the better. You will be turning a pigs ear into a silk purse. It will be such a transformation. After all who would know but me it is oak under the paint?

I was just looking through pictures for someone and ran across the long table I just finished doing the mosaic on and when I got it and refinished it I loved it and when I just saw it I thought to myself. How in the world did I ever like it? It is so much better with mosaic.

Just have fun with it and when it is done I am must positive it will be wonderful. So Hurry Up Get to Work!!!

Uh oh. I was thinking my table was toooooo cheap and unattractive to waste time on mosaicing. I read somewhere that if it's not a pretty table when unmosaiced, it w/still be an unattractive table WITH mosaic. NOT. I love yours too, SHADES - how did you make the plate edges look soooooooo flat? The top really looks smooth. Love your designs. I gotta start trying this technique w/plates.

I'd like to know, too what slow asked. Those who work a lot with plates,how do you get them so flat looking. No matter what I do, mine don't come out that way.

Uh, SLOW? NOT - I just saw this yesterday and it appears you're half finished the top already. Gonna be lovely. Yep - I read in another thread that SHADES uses her dremel after the fact to smooth down the edges. Wish I knew which Dremel to buy for grinding.

SLOW, I have a sears rotary tool. I don't think it matters so much about the actual tool (I like the variable speed, though).I got a corded one, because apparantly I can't keep a cordless tool running no matter what I do!!

The way I learned was by going in Lowe's and going to the tool section by the rotary tools. They have all the accesories and what they are used for. I got a BIG case of different bits (generic) from Amazon.com

This is the one, but it was on sale or something for $16

Other than that, good old trial and error

Seems like a lot to accessories, and probably lots of them I wouldn't use. I went to Dremel Inc., and the 400XPR looks like the one I've seen advertized on t.v. a lot. Then went to Lowes site, and they don't carry it at my Lowes. Then went to Amazon.com. and found it but am afraid to just buy something blindly. This is exactly why I haven't bought one yet. W/LOVE to see one demonstrated before I buy. Since you said you didn't think it matters so much about the actual tool, would these accessories work on my drill?

Yep, like drill bits, pretty much interchangeable. You can get some bits with the tool. I'm sure there are smaller sets out there and you can always buy individual ones at Lowe's.

Can you use the dremel as a glass cutter like a ring saw or just to grind edges??

Like shrty I have had my dremel FOR YEARS! and have only used it twice and only on wood!

walmart carries that one slow and had a better price than Home Depot or Lowes.

I don't think it would replace the ring saw. They do have stands ( maybe where the foot control comes in) and possible some ofthe bits would work. Theres going to be an issue of keping it cool, too. Now I dip it in water

Yeah, I was wondering about the cooling of the blade, cuz the two diamond thingys on the wet saw and ring saw use water, so I was wondering why the Dremel didn't mention the cooling issue. W/check Walmart - thanks, LIL.
