Need Window Planning Expert

We have a large room...around 400 sq. feet, that we want to remodel. It currently has windows on three walls. However one wall, that faces the totally private and wooded backyard has only one small window.

We want to make a wall of windows along that wall, but I need help with layout and window-types. We might also want to increase the size of the windows on the other walls.

Who can I call to help me plan this so it turns out beautifully? Would it be an architect, decorator, builder, person at the window store?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would think any consciencious sales rep with a reputable window company. Many manuf. have examples of what can be done on their websites and most manuf. can make any sizes and dimensions.

I'd just sit down with a piece of paper and draw out how you would like it to look. Then start making some phone calls and talking to a few window specialists.

This site will give you some ideas:

You'll need a good contractor that specializes in remodeling. I would also recommend an Engineer or Architect that can give you the technical aspects of cutting into a load bearing wall. You'll need to change header sizes to accommodate more load responsibilities. A good contractor should have no problem with figuring this out 95% of the time. It can sometimes require an engineer if your laying out a pyramid of windows or some other stacked method. It's better safe than sorry when it comes to a stack of windows.

Picking out the proper model of window is really something that comes down to your own personal preference. My theory when selling windows is making sure I try and keep the new windows matching the existing windows. If a house has all doublehung windows, or casements, I try and match what the house already has. It's always drove me crazy when I see an old ranch style home that was built with doublehung windows have an addition off the back with casements. Unless they are required for an egress issue.

Your wall that over looks the back yard would possibly be a great location for a bay or bow unit. This will bring in a lot of additional sun light and give you a better view of your wooded yard. Your window supplier will be able to show you the different options available. Good Luck!!!

Skydawggy, you put "conscientious sales rep" and "reputable window company" in one sentence. Is that possible? (just ribbing you)
