i gave away a large table by mistake...

well, I had one of those moments when I was less than satisfied with a particular table I mosaic'd and offered it to a friend with a large deck and porch area. I asked her if she'd give my table a home on her beautiful porch and she accepted. But she waited over a YEAR to come pick it up. So, of course, my attitude changed after seeing it in place for so long, and I even started using it often. When she finally came for it, I was sad to let it go! But, I couldnt' go back on my offer (she'd bought some chairs to match and cleared a space for it). So today she calls to tell me that she bought some side tables just like the one I mosaic'd and would like to make them matching...IF, I just needed a project! waaaaaaaah. I don't wanna (and I won't)...but I want my table back too! I'm such a brat, I know!

I understand just how you feel. My mom told me last week she would like the little table I did recently, and I (kinda reluctantly) told her I could have it. Then LATER my husband told me he liked it and had a place for it. Now I feel bad, but don't want to go back on my word to my mom. She IS going to trade me a nice set of breakable dishes for it though, so all is not lost!

    Hi Lisa,
DONT mosaic the end tables for her, just keep giving her excuses and eventually she will take the hint. I dont know if I would of let her take it AFTER a year. She should have picked it up sooner. Just one excuse after another as to why you CANT ( wont ) do the end tables for her. She should get the message after about 15 or so excuses.
I hate to sound so cold hearted, but you put alot of time and thought into that table, and thought she would enjoy it ALOT sooner.

thanks Sandra. You know what's funny, is this woman is an artist and could easily do it herself (she has a TON of glass and tools too). Um...I'm thinkng now maybe I should barter with her!

ladyronnie, now that's a good trade, I think!

There you go......... barter with her. ( Get the best end of the deal ) in a month or a year or so...... put what she made for you in a yard sale in the FREE stack ! Or better yet, maybe she will see it and buy it thinking you might not remember who YOU got it from....This way you wont have to worry about her ever asking again... Man...... I have been reading the posts way to long :)

well thats a bummer. there should be a time limit like if they dont come within a month then the deal is automaticaly null and void. I personally am just a greedy you know what cause when people have asked for my stuff I just give them a look as if to say not a chance in Hell. my neighbor was trying to get me to let him list my BB on ebay and I wouldnt even do that LOL

Why don't you say to her that if she gives the table back you'll mosaic the end tables and those can go with the chairs she bought. It'll be hard, just tell her you want your table back, it has gained sentimental value in the YEAR that she waited. It might sting for a little while, but everything will be fine! You have my support. And it's not going back on your word, it's simply changing your mind.
Shellybelly- Rock on with the dirty looks. That's how I roll.
