TMG: I'm with you; I couldn't break that beauty! -- especially if it has no chips or cracks! There are a lot of things out there that are damaged and ripe for smashin'!

Some of my favorite eating dishes are pieces I picked up intending to break for mosaics! I now have a very eclectic collection of dishes in my cupboard. I figure if a project comes up where I REALLY need it, I'll know where to find it!

Oh, I'd be making it my new fav tea cup!!! Tasy and I are thinkin long the same lines! Lovely!

I have saved about 12 beautiful floral antique plates all different patterns to actually use for china,but find very little I don't cut up.

That is such a pretty teacup! I'm with you, I'd have a hard time cutting it. Sometimes I have a hard time cutting big hunks of glass because it's so pretty. lol

That is such a beautifully unusual cup/saucer set that I don't think that I would have the heart to break it! I am not usually drawn to fancy things like that anymore. However, this one is so different with the little feet! Maybe it can be a 'use it now.... enjoy it.... maybe break it later' piece. :)

As bad as I am about not keeping things that collect dust these days, I have to say I couldn't break that one. It's beauty w/be lost in a mosaic. I'd probably give it away as a gift to someone who collects them.

i have to agree with everyone else I hate dusting so I'd hve to smash it. Plus just imagine how great it'd look glued to something LOL

I'm NOT all about dusting! Break it. Look at it this way... something could happen to it and it could get broken. Wouldn't you rather be the one to break it?

Just close your eyes and then you can pretend it was an accident and technically then its not your fault and no need to feel bad LOL. Or casually knock it off of a table or something.

All I really have to do is hand it to my DH .... anything that's breakable - he'll be sure to break it. He even broke my Corelle dishes - they were supposed to be unbreakable ...! *rolling my eyes*

I would have it hold some special pieces of broken china, until it was the color and design you needed for some project. in the meantime..it's a great little thing to hold the few hard to find things that sorta get shoved aside.

and since it has a saucer..those are worth around $18 or more..that would buy a lot of other china or pieces to be broken up..
you might take it to a nice boutique and even do a bit of trading..

It's funny reading back over this.....we are pretty divided about "smash" it or NOT.

I wouldn't be able to break it. It is absolutely beautiful and very unique. I think they only way I would ocnsider breaking it would be to cut it in half and incorporate the half cup into a mosaic.

I decided to hang onto it - till I find the perfect project then I won't feel so bad smashing it. Till then - it'll be in my china cabinet . It still has the $2.99 price tag on it ~~ LOL !

Toomuchglass: Yes it is a beauty! Since I am one that works with mostly china, some fine bone, most American made, I would say, it depends what you want to make with it. Personally, I would never use it for an outdoor mosaic.

If you break the cup, then you might as well use the saucer. The beauty of the gold and ornate style in the handle, make it easy to cut. There are about 2 things I use the handles for. One would be a perch for a birdhouse or decorative focal point on top of the roof. Another thing I have made, since I love hearts and heart shapes, is mosaic wall plaques, and use the gold handles as pegs. I hang a potholder from one, and use the other one to display a hanging crystal.

Now if it is bone china, the chances of being able to split it so that you can use one for half cup design to a substrate (I have done these also) then that would be a charm, but sometimes bone china shatters instead of splitting perfectly done the sides. The gorgeous gold feet and the rim, you can use with your mosaic if you use the handle, but the rose will be difficult to salvage.

I had a couple displayed in a mosaic cabinet, but accidently broke the cup, and I saved the gold handle.

You don't have to bother with dusting, all you do is run it under the water or dish water when you are done with your dishes, set to dry and place it back where you had it. I gave up dusting a long time ago?? Anyway, the handle is by far one of the prettiest I have ever seen!
