Where to begin?

My 1990 home has crappy contractor windows. The four on the south side are beat and must be repaired or replaced. Five on the east side could be replaced. Ten on the north and west sides are ok. All the windows are about four feet x 31 inches except for three bathroom windows (all on the east side) which are about a foot shorter (just pulling a tape across the hole).

One of the windows on the east side is a casement window over my sink that fills a hole that is 42"wx41"h that needs to be repaired or replaced, so it could be part of the project.

The house is a garrison and the overhang is on the west side. All the windows on this side look different (substantial trim, shutters) from all the other windows, but similar to each other. They are in great shape and I have no desire to replace them.

The one window on the north side, one window on the east side, and the four on the south side are the same window as those on the west side, but have basic board and sill trim. The four on the south side should match, but do not need to match anything else except the one same window on the east side. The window on the north can be unique since no other windows are concurrently visible. The three bathroom windows should match, and the fourth window on the east side should match the ones on the south side since it is on the south east corner and would be visible while looking at the south side. The casement window will be unique.

All the windows are trimmed in pine. I think all new windows will be vinyl. Right now, all windows are trimmed in dark blue and the house siding is kind of a blue green. Paintable would be a desirable characteristic, but not a priority.

As I understand things, I need to spend $5000 on parts to qualify for the maximum rebate. Installation is not included and the windows must have a U-factor and Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) less than or equal to 0.30.

So, I am interested in doing a project that will earn me a $1500 credit, but cost as little as necessary. I don't want to open a conversation with a contractor or installer with that information.

So, how inexpensively can I buy qualifying windows and what should I expect the installation cost per window to be? What are recommended inexpensive qualifying windows?

I'd like to achieve the financial objectives by...

1) replacing five windows on the south and east sides

2) replacing the casement window over the sink

3) replacing the three bathroom windows

4) replacing the window on the north side

I live in 03819 (Danville, New Hampshire) -- in case that affects price estmates or window recommendations.

Thanks for any information you can provide.
