very colorful Ronnie! I would go with a block of wood so that you can either remove it or drill an access hole into it.

DH suggested welding a metal base to it with an access hole cut out for the light. I'm not sure if welding is an option for you or not, just thought I'd throw it out there. He actually offerred to weld it for you until I told him how far away you lived, lol.
I love the colours you chose and the design is really funky. I would never have looked twice at a chimney top before, but I will now! This forum sure makes you look at things in a whole new light. Great idea!

Seems somebody else does as I do - too anxious to prep the piece before gluing. I am always so anxious to get started that I don't put the hangers on the back of a wall piece FIRST. Don't know how to fix yours, but I sure like what you've done to it. Lookin' good. That's gonna be a great light fixture. Are you going to paint the mesh? Where are you gonna use it? W/be a fabulous patio or garden light.

NT, the wood block has been my leaning until ZONE suggested welding a bottom on it. I hadn't thought of that. I wouldn't have a clue, but DH can weld and has the means. I'll have to bounce that off him.

SHELLY: Many of the circles are actually EARRINGS! The only glass globs are slightly irridized clear, with almond-colored silicone under them. (Not GE II, as I ran out when I was working on it at my sister's, and this is what she had on hand.)

ANNIE, I had SLOW as my inspiration for sure, in fact have her ironing board as my wallpaper right now for just this project. BUT I don't think it has the lovely flow at all that she manages somehow. Mines' just choppy. BTW, a lot of what looks like black glass is actually regular mirror. I hadn't given rust a consideration, and probably won't worry about it, now that I am considering it!

SLOW: I've already spraypainted the mesh black, so that's all I plan to do with that. I am actually thinking I'm making this one to sell rather than use, since I'm not REALLY happy with how it's turning out so far. Might change my mind in the end though!

So you've been to Barrie? That's really cool, Ontario is a long way from home for you! If you're ever out this way again let me know - maybe we can meet up somewhere!

We've only lived in Barrie since the end of May, and we absolutely love it. We're originally from Thunder Bay, Ontario which is about a 15 hour drive north of here, right on the Minnesota border.

Where is the Sundial? I'm not familiar with it but we're still discovering new places all the time, lol. The closest place I could find was the Sundial Inn in Orillia which is about a 15 minute drive from here.

Seven months isn't such a VERY long time to let a project sit, is it??? Ok,maybe so. I grouted this one tonight. (I know, worthless without pics. I'll get them tomorrow hopefully.) I decided to go with a lighter grout since I had glass from white to black and everything in between to contend with. It's kind of a light to medium gray. It was called "Light Smoke", but looked too chamgagney pink, so I added some black craft paint. It looks ok. I never have addressed that wiggly bottom problem, so I may lose all my grout on the bottom part. We'll see...

But you finished it! And yes, it does look Slow inspired. You getting ready for your trip? Aren't you excited???

Ya know the chimney tile I did? Well, after I saw your vent thingy, I was like "whoa, what if I got one of those to attach to the top of my chimney tile. I could make it into an outdoor lamp!". Hmmmmm, maybe have some kind of solor light???

I did figure out a fix for the bottom of it, which I think will work if the glue holds. You can see it in the PHOTOS below. I did put a hole big enough for a standard light bulb in it also. The bummer of it is, now I need to mosaic that bottom piece. DH says I can get it done in time!

Oooooh, I had idea when I was looking at the photos in the preview. I bought a pile of ball chain, I could just wind it round and round to cover the surface of the plastic...hmmmmmmm...

This is really pretty! What a great, creative idea.

I have one thought - I can't tell if there are feet under your wood platform. If you are going to put a lightbulb in there, then you might want to add some big wooden beads as feet, so that the light cord doesn't make it sit funny.

It's such a great piece, and now I'm wondering where I can score a chimney top. hmmmm.

No, no feet under it. DH questioned how a light FIXTURE would go into it, if there is just room for a lightbulb to be inserted. Guess I haven't really thought that part through. I've just pictured it sitting in a garden, and if someone wanted to put it over a light bulb there's a hole in the bottom. As DH pointed out, in the dark the only thing that would show up is the glass globs on the mesh anyway. I COULD see it on top of a post with a light bulb under it. If I don't sell it, I'll figure out a way to display it in the yard.

All more or less done! I did the bead chain fix. What do you think?

I love this. That ball chain really finished this up! It sure would be pretty sitting in a garden & at night it would really light it up pretty with the glass globs. Wonderful!

Would you believe that is TWENTY-FOUR FEET of the bead/ball chain?!! And I really need about another foot to truly finish it, but I used it up! Won't likely get more before I leave in the morning. I do think it looks pretty cool, if I say so myself :)

I saw this "live and upfront" at the art show we had at the workshop. This piece is a lot more beautiful in person. As a matter of fact it is breathtaking. It was such fun to see this and other creations face to face! What a fine time. great work Ronnie.
