Fiddlekate, I love your sailboat! I like your beginning with the mirrors. I think you have some great colors there to make a very striking sailboat. Had to laugh at the bandaid issue. FYI - I also keep a bottle of peroxide next to my bandaids. I just pour some on my cut, then put on the bandaid.

Nice start Fiddle! Here's a tip: On curved surfaces, you can use a larger piece if you place it vertically vs horizontally. No advice to offer on colors, except to say don't be afraid to be bold!

Rose... Thanks for the 'bold' suggestion. I really DO need to remember that! I admire everyone's bright colors... and keep reminding myself that grout ties it all together.

Well what a GREAT beginning. That is going to be a real piece of art when you finish. I LOVE your design, and wouldn't change a thing. Those mirror pieces look so perfectly cut - don't know what you're complaining about in your nipping. BEAUTIFUL start. Gonna watch this one anxiously. How nice of your DH to set you up in a workshop. Makes all the difference doesn't it, to have a special place to work?

Slow.... yes it sure DOES make a difference! I think he was motivated because the one day weeks ago that I tried out nipping some stuff on the dining room table he was SURE that he got a tiny chip in his toe afterward. "Well, DH... I really need a place of my own." :)

Hi! I love your sailboat, too. However, I'm a fifth grade teacher and can't help but interject my opinion in places. (Totally take it with a grain of salt, though.) If I were you, I would definitely go bold but, I would stick with one color group per sail. Does that make sense? Like blues and greens (and everything in between) on the sail I want to be most prominent. Another one, reds and oranges. And the final one...blues and purples or reds and purples, etc. This is just what I would do. However, you go crazy and have fun that's what it is all about!
P.S. Love the mirrors! And if you want those cut to heal faster get the bandaids that are for blisters and put them on when you're done for the day. By the next morning, you should be HEALED!! (Of your cuts, not of the desire to mosaic!)

FIDDLE: I like KELLY's suggestion very much. I can just picture it as she has described. Neosporin works wonders.

Kelly and Slow... I LIKE that idea! And appreciate it very much! I did two more sections yesterday... to the left and right of the one pictured... and was at a standstill as to how to proceed color-wise. So... your suggestion will help give me a focus! Thanks again!!!
(Will take my bandaid off and go to work! :) Actually... it was a very tiny cut yesterday. Not even 'whine' material. :)

I'm glad the suggestion gave you some direction. I'm the kind of girl that is pretty sure of herself most of the time, but I find that this forum has great ideas! All you have to do is ask. And sometimes not, people will just tell ya, like me. Standstills suck. (Can anyone say that five times real fast? Go ahead try it. Its kinda fun!)

Katie, sorry I didn't look at this earlier. To be honest, I wasn't crazy about the sailboat when I saw it way back when. But NOW that has all changed! It's probably a little late to add this, but I definitely would NOT take off those white spots. They really seem to make it look like there is WIND in those sails. In fact, that's what I'd call it..."Wind in My Sails". FWIW :)

Yes... left the white but have put on / taken off / put on other things several times. At least I'm actually seeing a progression as I work.. and I guess that's good. Will post another pic. soon.
