My first thought was it didn't have enough tooth to hold the adhesive. Did you sand it before painting and then rough up the paint?

Don't understand either, unless the GE II was bad. When I mosaiced the Duck Family, it was on real shiny, slippery ceramic, but I used Ultra Flex 2, and it stuck. I've just about quit using GE II cuz I'm so messy and hate the cleanup so bad. For the bowl/pitcher I'm using the Mapei readymixed adhesive/grout. It's real slippery pottery, but it's sticking just fine.

I think you are the third person to have a problem with those plastic tissue boxes. For some reason, probably the plastic, they fall apart.

Sun, I've had that problem when I thought I had used enough adhesive, but it wasn't enough, it is a fine balance to add enough to hold yet not too much to be messing up the grout lines...

When the pieces came off, was the paint stuck to the tesserae or did it remain on the box?

Most of it was on the box. But some came off with it. What I found to be very odd is that the glass globs seemed to hold on pretty well. Had to pry those off. But the nipped and cut glass just fell off. I thought that was weird. Where I pried the paint came off. Why do you ask?

I have done a plastic th before had no problem.I think it might have been the pant not shure.

Hey, that brings up a thought. I sealed a wooden pedestal w/an oil-based sealer - Armorall, I think, and tried to mosaic it, and they started falling off next morn when I turned it over to start another side. Thank goodness I hadn't gone further. The directions of the Ultra Flex 2 said that it wouldn't work on oil-based stuff, but I paid no attention. Could be the paint on your tissue cover was not conducive w/the adhesive.

Jane-I was trying not to be so messy with the silicone 'cause it is really a pain to get off of stuff. So, I guess that could be it, but looking at the pieces that came off there seems to be adequate silicone on the backside. (That I now get to try to get off so I can reuse-can't let that glass go to waste!)

Can't thing of anything plastic I have done before, so I think I just needed to do more prep. Slow, it is certainly possible that the primer was not working with the silicone. I am not sure I will pick up that tb to do again. Althought it really is irking me that I didn't get something done that I was just starting to like!! aarrrrrggghhh!! And yes, I'm still fuming!

I asked about the paint to see where the failure occured, either the paint didn't adhere to the plastic or the tesserae didn't adhere to the paint. I do think it was a tooth issue, it probably should have been roughed with course sand paper 1st, then use only a primer not a top coat paint, primers have tooth. Sometimes I will even mix primer with Weldbond to get a really good tooth on my surface.

I only used primer but no sanding. That seems to have been the failure. I am getting over it and thinking about what to do to try again. :heavy sigh:
