Dont give up!!!! I'm sorry about your ceiling that is a big bummer!!!! I'm glad you werent in there at the moment! That would really have been way to much and you probably would've got hurt...so think of if like this..doing 5 minutes of mosaics was what saved you from being hurt..see now you can't give it up, even if you don't have enough time.

Honestly though, I am really glad you or any other family wasn't in there at the time and I hope your bill to fix it isn't too bad. Is your home owners going to cover it?

Like Chickee said " Lucky no one was in there!" I know how hard it might seem, but just consider yourself lucky!
I've known quite a few people who have had that happen. Ceiling fans make me so nervous. We have them in every bedroom, and in the diningroom, and I worry about that all the time.

Good luck with the repairs...hopefully it won't be too costly. Probably more of a pain in the butt than anything else. Hope your day gets better!

I'm so glad you are okay. It could have ended VERY differently. . . think of mosaics as a lifesaver from now on!

On a much lighter and somewhat funnier note, the sewer cleaner men were on my street a few weeks back. They stick this giant hose into the manholes and blow air into the sewers - kinda like a big plumbing snake. I'm just about to go downstairs to mosaic when there is this "jet engine" noise in my bathroom . . . . I ran in and there is water dripping from every surface (ceiling included)and the toilet is gurgling like Mt. St. Helens!!

I ran out to the sewer guys and told them to join me in the bathroom . . . . they were hysterical - laughing and snorting and "omigod I've never seen THAT happen before" . . .It's just a darn good thing I wasn't sitting on the john when it happened!

They DID help me clean it up and inspected my vent stack to find the plug that caused the whole problem. Took care of that and it "should" never happen again. I DO think they were shocked when I told them they were joining me in the bathroom - the tone of voice said it all . . . .

Oh Shelly what a nightmare. But like everyone said thank goodness no one was hurt!

That is about the biggest bummer I've heard in awhile. Sorry all is not well Shelly. Very glad no one was hurt. Maybe since you have to have some work done, you can get something extra special out of it-like new flooring or something exciting like that. (When our bathroom floor almost fell in and we had to redo the entire bath-I got a jacuzzi tub out of the ordeal.)

OH GOOD GRIEF...how horrible...but a blessing no one was killed or lamed!!!! Mosaicing is the best therapy, so you better get cracking...go break something..throw a plate or two!

And Wench...what a story you have!! Whew......or Pee UUU??? Glad your guys helped you get the mess taken care of!!!! That was a funny diaster story!

I am so sorry about your ceiling Shelly! Hopefully, it will all be covered under your homeowners insurance. Thank God no one was hurt.

I'm glad my drain is in the basement...when it plugged up when we first moved in it only loosened a couple of tiles on the floor.

Wench: That is so funny...at least you got your stacked cleaned and shouldn't have to worry about it happening again.

MW, I've never heard of such a thing! That could have caused some internal damage to somebody - what a story that would have been to tell to the doctor! Glad you had help with your clean up.

thanks guys I guess it is good that I wasnt in there or that my DD wasnt in there. It can be fixed and now that he has had a day to look at it and ponder DH says it only needs 1 piece of sheetrock and some insulation.

I just watched a show called "Dirty Jobs with MIke Rowe" he was cleaning a basement where the b asement had an explosion from the same type of stuff you had but...this is a big but too!!! The neighborhoods sewage blew up in this ladies basement bathroom...it was SOOOOOOO gross you should feel lucky!!!! There was poo and God knows what EVERYWHERE!!!
