Welcome, AdaO! What luck for you! I bought some equipment from an art teacher that was through with her stained glass phase. I felt to fortunate to get her leftover glass, hand tools, and best of all, the grinder.

How fortunate also to have a SG shop so close by. That will help a lot. Other than that I would suggest hitting the library and picking up all the books you can get on SG. You will get lots of ideas and tips.

Hi and welcome, I agree with d3bbi go to the library, that is were I found most of my books, and quite a few projects.

I'd be real surprised if your local SG store doesn't offer a class.

Oh another tip, when your learning to cut glass go to the 2nd hand store and buy cheap picture frames, take out the glass, chuck the frame and you will have practice glass to cut with. It makes it so much nicer that way cause its always scary learning to cut on a piece of glass the is beautiful!!

Ada- Boy have you come to the right place?! I do mosaics, not stained glass. Although, I would love to do this one day soon, I'm currently getting my master's degree and can't take on anything else right now. ANYWHO...I defnitely say go to the library. Glean some info form a book, and you will proably get all the rest of your knowledge from these absolutely wonderful stained glassing ladies!! If someone doesn't explain a method or tip quite to your understanding, someone else will come along, say it a little differently, and *snapping fingers* you get it!! I like to think of it as magic! You'll have tons of fun here! Welcome!!

A beginner class is a must ! WHen you sort through all those goodies - it'll scare you ! LOL ... A class will teach you to be calm and confident ( Plus you won't have to buy the tools ! ) You'll learn how to use the tools correctly and get all kinds of tips and hints that books don't tell you . Once you get a beginner class under your belt - you're ready to go on your own :)

WELCOME!! I'd take a beginner's class if I could find one!! I just use glass in mosaics. It's taken months to just learn to cut a decent straight line. BUT there is plenty of help here, so just holler!!

Hi AdaO, Welcome to SG&M. I'm sure the ladies here will be able to recommend some good books. As you'll see, there is an amazingly helpful group of women here. I'm still a wannabe mosaicist. I've yet to get tools, but hope to soon. In the meantime, I believe reading the posts here have given me a huge headstart for when I do finally jump in there. Anyway, here are some sites you might like to take a look at. The Inland Craft site has some "how to" booklets that might interest you. The Warner-Crivellaro has a nice techtips section and thejoyofshards is a nice all-round place for info. on mosaics if you decide to use some of your stained glass for mosaics.

Welcome to the best book anywhere on mosaics. The ones on this forum that work in stained glass have given you great advice, and you are soooooo fortunate to live close to a SG store. Oh, I'd go broke in just a few visits to one. Nearest one to me is about an hr./half, if I don't stop at TSs in between. You're in for a wonderful ride w/us.

Welcome and WATCH OUT!! Stained Glass is ADDICTIVE as is this forum!!! ha ha! I have really benefitted from taking a hands on course as thats my best way of learning, but you already have all the great advice here and so GO GET THAT GLASS!!! HAVE FUN!!! Oh, and buy bandaids....nuff said!

Welcome AdaO, you lucky girl! I'm really new to mosaicing and have no advice for you. Just wanted to let you know that you should feel free to post ANY questions you have. The support, advice and feedback from this wonderful group has been more helpful to me than any book or class out there. If you're anything like me, you won't have time for a class cuz you're always in here reading and learning, lol.
