Replacing Window from Inside vs Outside

Just wondering if there is a difference in the install if a contractor removes and replaces the vinyl window from inside the house vs outside the house.

Our current builders grade windows are not as deep as the typical window. They are cheap, cheap, cheap!! They are recessed from the sill. We have only had one person here for the Simonton 9800 series. He said he will need to cut about 2" into the sill and sheetrock to install the windows so it is easiest to do the job from inside the house. I had asked about the spray foam and he told me not needed, but if he is creating new space by cutting into the sheetrock, shouldn't he be prepared just in case?

The only thought that comes to mind is that it is easier to do it since they do not need to remove the j-channels and the siding of the house. I know if the siding gets damaged, it will be very difficult to match and replace.

We did have three windows replaced a few years ago when we remodeled elsewhere and that contracter did it from the outside. However, come to find out that he most likely did not cut away enough of the sill to install properly and may have left a 1" overhang surrounding the j-channel and that is why we have gushing air in the winter..sorry, different issue. Can this be easily fixed with expansion foam?

Anyway, does it make a diiference on whether you attack the job from the inside or outside?

Thx.

BTW - 9DH...considering Simonton 9800 Impressions, Gorell 5300, Okna Starmark and Alside Sheffield. Have only gotten the quote on the Simonton though thus far. Any comments?
