Esther, may I make a suggestion? Since you describe your appliances as "old," which implies that they might need to be replaced within the life of this kitchen, you might want to choose countertops, backsplash, and floor with an eye to something that would look good with either white appliances OR any new ones (possibly stainless steel?) that you might choose when your current appliances (sadly, but inevitably) die. White counters and backsplash would look good with either combination, of course, but some other combinations would look good too (light grays, for example). But quite a lot depends on the style of your cabinets. Are they dark cherry or natural? Are the cabinets traditional raised panel or contemporary flat panel or classic Shaker? More info and/or photos would be helpful.
