I grind standing up, and have 3 pieces of light plexi around it, and one under it with a towel on top to soak up the water. My room is ready for a good cleaning too, there
are glass shards all over the counters behind all the clutter. I dread doing it!

Messy one here, I have two plastic corner guards(Musta been used by carpet cleaners?bought at gs) and thats it.

A Morton cutting board or a seed tray?
I have my grinders on an old TV cabinet covered in contact, the floor is rubber tiled so I stand. Water is not a problem for me as I work in the gararge but I do have a small, cheap wet and dry vac to pick up the mess.

Man, and here I thought I was the only one with the urge to do 'spring cleaning'!! LOL!! Just spent 1-1/2 days cleaning my work space, too. Course, it's a single car garage that I share with DH's latest motorcycle, my woodworking equipment, gardening stuff, etc. etc.

I'm wishing for a grinder...gotta be REAL nice to Santa and/or use say "grinder" as every third word in every sentence between now and CHristmas!!

I glass and have my grinder in an old aquarium which I picked up off of FreeCycle. It works perfectly for me.

I grind sitting down because I'm an old fart and my back hurts if I stand for too long on the terrazzo flooring where my workroom is.

It's hard to force myself to do, but I clean up my work area between each project so that it doesn't get overwhelming. It sounds crazy, but I can't maintain my "zen glass" frame of mind if my surroundings are messy and disorganized. Thoughts of the stuff out of place keep punching into my happy zone if I switch from one project to another without picking up first. Then again, I switch back and forth between leaded glass, foiled stained glass, and mosaics and the supplies are different, so maybe that contributes to it!

You saw the pics of my space. I sit when I grind and I use an office chair so I can adjust the height to make it comfortable. My space is in the basement and I use vinyl tablecloths on my work tables. I don't use anything to stop the splatters. I just use a rag or glove to sweep glass shards into the basket when I'm done working or when I empty the water and clean out my grinder.

I recently put my grinder on top of a Morton tray and then raised it on some leftover pieces of floor tile. I stand when I use it but find it does hurt my back when I do a lot of grinidng and am putting pressure on the glass. I wear an apron to avoid some of the splash.

I have my own shed as my glass shop now. (See me jumping up and clicking my heels) My DH just had a new one built for his lawn equipment and tools so he just moved out of mine. Isn't he great?!

It isn't pretty to use, but I cut one side out of a cardboard box, or however I have to cut it to have the sides of the box shield the back & sides, then toss when it gets yucky & get another one.
