Guess I won't be buying those large cans of ANYTHING - takes too long to eat a regular sized can of beans. Good idea, especially to line a pathway, and this time of year, think of the possibilities for holiday designs. What are you doing lying in a hammock? There's mosaicing to be done.

You don't actually have to eat anything. Call the local pizza parlor and ask them to save their large sauce cans for you. They recycle them in my little town. Most of the cans they save for me have a white enamel lining that makes them particularly good for candle shelters and I also use them for extra pots for larger plants that I give away. Maybe we should have a thread of "how many uses can you think of for recycled pizza sauce cans?" I find them very useful for grain scoops and a host of other uses.

Couldn't you use a nail and make holes in it around the design of the mosiac. Just keeping the grout out of the holes? Might be too tedious. Hmmmm...

Easy enough to do the holes and keep 'em clear (I think)..Ya gotta put water in the can and freeze it to have a solid surface to punch holes against and avoid collapsing the can. Do all the holes, then from the inside drip or 'run' wax into the holes. THe grout shouldn't stick very much to the wax areas and the wax will melt out when exposed to heat, so if there's any left you can poke them thru.

I think it'd work.....let me know when someone tries it!! LOL!! Allergies so bad right now I am fighting to stay out of bed. Yuck.

How about putting clear glass globs over the holes to keep the grout out. I wonder how a person could make larger than nail holes in them? Big drill??

What a great idea with these cans and I just happen to hav a friend that works at the local pizza place here.

Okay...I went down to my DH's woodshop and he just happened to have an empty coffee can. I was too impatient to try out your idea so I didn't fill it with water and freeze it. I drew on a pattern and used a nail and hammer to pound the holes. I did use a big nail for a couple of the holes and it did collapse the can a bit so I would probably fill it with water and freeze it if I make another. I used GE II to glue the blobs on and realized I probably should have painted the can, at least the inside of it first before I started. Oh well...not sure what color to grout this, if any. Maybe white grout and then paint gold or silver???? Then add glitter??? Whatcha think?

The silicon is getting to Janebo. Great little candle shelter, CRAFTY. Betcha it looks really nice at night. I DO like the effect gold grout adds to these little puppies. Wish I could find half marbles in white. Haven't seen any around here.

You could do cut out shapes out of the can too by drilling a hole then using a jewelers saw an cutting out a shape(maybe seasonal: snowflake, jack o lantern face, fall leaf, etc.)

I saw some white marbles at walmart i think...it was a mixed bag of white, frosted, and clear half marbles.

Oh, thanks, y'all. I don't order on-line much anymore, but w/save this note for the white ones. I DO remember seeing them in the stained glass shop in Longview but they were too expensive for my stinginess.

You gals are really going to town with this one! I really want to do something for my patio for use in the evenings. I have my MEGA SIZE can of peaches but can't start on this small project yet. DH and I are heading north on Sunday to visit my dad on his 88th. He's been in the hospital again and will be moving to a facility with a higher level of personal care so it will be another stressful trip. I'm not even sure I'll be able to visit with Bevinpa but will surely try. BUT when I get back I'll be ready for serious BREAKING!
