I do a lot of quilt-type patterns, so I know your frustration when it doesn't work out exactly like you had planned. I would HIGHLY recommend the Morton system. It has helped me tremendously.
But really, your piece looks great, and I bet nobody would notice your imperfections if you hadn't mentioned them. The colors, shapes and miliflori all create a beautiful art piece. I bet it'll be really be gorgeous once you get it grouted!

Wait a minute!! Ya mean squares **aren't** supposed to be a little off one way or another?!?!? Well, as my grandma used to say "You'll never know the difference on a galloping horse". Actually, your piece is very pretty and, like bama said, we probably wouldn't have noticed if you hadn't mentioned it. I believe that little things like that really make art as lovely as it is. Something that is absolutely perfect in every way is usually machine made and loses appeal because of it.

Looks great to me. Curbdiver is so right; if it were too perfect, it would look like a mass produced piece. Can't wait to see it grouted.

Thanks everyone for the encouragement. I really prefer my pieces not to be perfect. Then they look like they were machine cut - something you'd just buy from a store. Here is the finished project. Not too bad. I know we all see our own inperfections in our work.

I got a question for you. How do you attach hangers to a piece like this? I'm not sure you will be hanging this one, but I'd like to know because I'm working on a 2'x2' mirror done on 1/2" MDF.

I have these 1 1/2" hangers from my father you install with teensy tiny nails and you just put them on the back - if you can hold the nails and pound them in the same time without getting them crooked like I tend to do. I just paint the back and sides black. It works even without a frame. I do things the cheap way. If anyone would like some of these hangers, I'll send you some, just let me know.

I totally agree, love the colors, love the pattern, and love the imperfections! Brings it more into the human realm. The beauty is in the creation, imperfections and all.

I love this. The colors & pattern both. I do have a question about the hangers. When do you nail them on? It seems like nailing on the wood with glass down would be risky, but is it?

Sirius, what a beautiful, cheery piece of art! The black grout was a perfect choice.

I usually attach the hanger before I start the project. But even if I haven't the nails are so tiny, it doesn't take much pounding to get them in, so it doesn't hurt the glass.

Sirius, love your quilt block! That black grout really makes the colors pop.

Here's a little tip I found when you attach the hangers on the back, try holding the nail with needle nose pliers and then pound it in. They go in much straighter.

ABSOLUTLEY BEAUTIFUL!! I think its perfect and the "imperfect" squares and spaces are IMHO what make it a mosaic. Very BEAUTIFUL! I did a small quilt pattern mosaic for my mom, the quilter, she loved it. Bet we see a few more before too long!

I love your quilt pattern and colors, and the grout color was the perfect choice. I think I'd use it as a hot plate in my kitchen. I love how that turned out! Don't see an imperfection at all.

seaglassic - those are stones that were put around a mimosa tree to give me a planted area underneath it. I was going to try a mandala, but I'm not ready for too many curves yet.
I think this may end up a gift for someone at Christmas who likes quilts.
