OH my i use to make those they are so cool and cute. I have them on my screen doors and made lots for family. Yours is better then the one you bought.

Those are really cut... could you maybe make a 2 or 3 body part insect? oh with little sucker feet to cling to windows

They are both great! I have a couple of spiders..somewhere that I bought!

Those have been around for a long time - but they were first marketed to 'plug" up holes in the screens . It's an oldie but goodie ! I still like them !

Well, you l'il heifer! Cute as a bug. I was gonna ask how you made it but SHADES answered that question. Yours IS better than the bought one - very neatly done. How big is the body?

It's made with a glass glob the size of a half dollar.
Just wrapped a little piece of copper foil around, cover all with a heavy coat of solder, add feet and head. Then I used a copper patina to color the silver solder.
Very fast to do.
I paid $5.00 for it, though I think that is a little too much.

Why would $5 be too much? If it took just 15 minutes to make at $5 you aren't even making $20 an hour cause you got to subtract the cost of the materials. Artists and Crafters deserve a living wage too. p

Materials cost less than a dollar. And about 15 min. is right. I would charge $3.00 personally.

You also have to add in electricity and other utilities, rent, the time it took you to get the materials, paper work, booth fees etc. At $3(assuming that materials and all that other stuff adds up to a $1 per bug) you are only making $8 an hour...you can't own a home, feed and clothe a family or even yourself on $8 where I live. p

Bama, I'm just a dirt gardener and I make 32.50. Weeding takes less skill that making those.

Pea, don't forget the gas to travel to and from the shows.

So Pea,(or anyone else) do you have an automatic minimum dollar per hour you charge for EVERY item you sell to cover your living expenses?
(rent, utilities,etc?)

double your cost, 1.00 in supplies is 2.00 but don't forget to add every tiny percent of shipping and taxes you paid too, then add an overhead percentage for expenses can be anywhere from 10 - 30% or more - pays your gas and electric, booth fees... now add your pay rate and 20 will be mininmum.

Every item is different but I try to make somewhere $15 and $20 an hour before I add in expenses. Your $5 bug would likely be $8 on my table. lol p
