I'm feeling sentimental tonight, and thought I'd show you the lighthouse my father made when my mom wished she had a lighthouse. This mailbox is his 2nd one, the first practice one is back behind the pond in the backyard picture, probably about 4 feet high, sitting on a base about 2 1/2 feet high.

Picture this in mosaics?

Oops! forgot to say they're both made of cement, in case you can't tell. This one is about 6 feet high?

Wow that mushroom turned out great. I love it even un-mosaiced!!! The lighthouse is awesome too...now we know where you got your talent!!!

That lighthouse would be beautiful mosaiced like you said!!! Lets borrow it mosaic it and then give it back eh??

Your mushroom is just PREFECT!!! Now I can see why Mom wanted it plain. Course she could paint it with Yogert and it will start to grow moss on it. Very nice!!! I REALLY like it. And to mosaic the light house. OH how fun would that be?? Course it is just as cute as can be now.

Oh, the mushroom looks wonderful with all the other little critters. And your dad's mailbox is wonderful! Did he do the same wire structure that you did with the mushroom? Wow, you and your dad can go into business.

Thanks everyone. I missed seeing it out in my backyard this morning, I'm going to have to get busy on my own pretty quick.

I'll tell my mom about the yogurt bringing moss. That would look neat. I'm not sure about our sun down here though, if the moss would survive it during the summer.

If I remember correctly, Dad made the lighthouses basic structure out of styrofoam, cardboard, etc. I think he had some wire around it too. It's been a while though, and I'm not sure. I'll have to ask my mother if she remembers when I'm there today. My older brother probably remembers too, he's in construction (learned at my Dad's knee) so I'm sure that the details are stuck in his head somewhere.

The mushroom looks great! Aren't you glad you didn't "perfect" it?? Nice lighthouse, must be a nice rememberance of you Dad

Tell your Mom I love her back yard! The frogs add such personality to the mushroom! Gosh... I can see how you've GOT to make one for yourself and mosaic it. It's easy to see a colorful top on your Mom's! But... if Mom's happy.... everybody's happy so you've done exactly the right thing in giving it to her plain! :)

Everyday on the way home from work I see a yard with a lighthouse and think about it mosaicked. It's not a mailbox and not nearly as neat and nice as yours. LOVE the lightkeeper's house your Dad made!

What a great view out the window. I really like the mushroom "plain", goes really well out there. However did your dad do that lighthouse in cement! You are part of a very talented family...

I told my mom everyone liked her yard, & the lighthouse, & the mushroom too, and she was really tickled. She said thank you to everyone. It's set up to minimize water need now, and maintenance, so it's really working for her.

OH I LOVE THESE. Beautiful yard too. The mushroom looks so neat in it's place w/the critters. Won't you hate having to make another one for yourself? I can't stand making two of anything. You could make it larger, I suppose. The lighthouse is just wonderful, and OH YES - mosaic that sucker!!!

Slow, I keep looking out my window & it looks so .... empty with no 'shroom. We're going to go get "stuff" tomorrow to make one for us. I figure it won't be "the same" since I didn't know what I was doing, LOL. DH is telling me "we can make a mold, then they'll all be the same" but I told him I don't really want them to be the same, LOL. Mom's took the width of the lath for the cap, so I probably won't do any larger, but may do a grouping, maybe 3 sizes, with that size the largest.

And yesterday I was over and a friend was admiring her new acquisition. I mentioned that I was going to do one for me, but mosaic the top. Mom looked up at me and said, "Well, I'm not sure yet, but after it sits & cures a while maybe we can do this one too" LOL! Gotta love her, she's a sweetie.

I figure after she sees one done, she can make up her mind.

Oh, I have NO doubt she'll fall to the sickness when she sees yours mosaiced. Oh, boy. Don't we drag them into this disease ever-so-gently?
