I've responded twice already, but here, I'll say I think I'm gonna be sick - W/ENVY, that is. Your plan sounds well thought out. DO NOT EVEN think of de emphasizing anything at this point. IMHO, I think you should lay it out so it'll ALL be visible cuz from your last two (ONLY TWO, FOLKS) PROJECTS, YOU HAVE the talent to bring this off. What an artist. I couldn't even DRAW this design, much less paint in mosaics.

I was grocery shopping in another town and spotted a restaurant owner from my town, so I sucked in my shame and asked him if I could pick up their emptys. LOL
He said I could come by on Sunday afternoon and asked what I'm doing with them, embarassed I said I do mosaics and learned that he and his wife are also into it. He said he would bring me into the dining room and show me their project.

This is a high end place and should have plenty of wine bottles! I need more brown beer bottles for her hair though. wish I knew a drinker! lol

I cut up a ton of orange/red vitrous last night and got it started tumbling today.

There was an article awhile back about Photobucket and their bodyparts paranoia. I can't remember all the details, but one of their largest userbase are people with MySpace.com accounts. MySpace had been getting a ton of grief over the really bad stuff being posted on their sites.

MySpace doesn't allow for hosting photos, so like over here at GW, people get accounts at places like Photobucket. Since Photobucket had the lion's share of MySpace users, MySpace gave Photobucket an ultimatum: stop with the bodyparts or we'll block everything from Photobucket.

Since MySpace users are a huge chunk of revenue, Photobucket complied..... and they did so by hiring several fulltime employees just to check for bodyparts.

Fun, eh?

thankyou all for the sweet remarks, I'm actually quite glad to see this come back up as I've been contemplating this project alot lately. A couple roadblocks to my plan have been that I can't find a supplier for the thinset I want to use - it's a special Mapei product that Lowes can't locate to even to special order for me. I'm still hunting for a source. Then there's the issue of getting grout off the beachglass... I'm thinking that I'll have to mask each piece with weldbond before grouting... adds another level of work to this for me. I'll figure it out.

I'm itching to get started, soon.

I desire to do this entirely with recycled glass, it's free! and it will produce a certain underwater otherworld-ly look that I'm convinced will not jive with cut or nipped tesserae. I need Mapei Adesilex P10 for glass in wet conditions and I need alot.

Soooo Nice..when you do this in all recycled glass (which the picture is gorgeous by the way!!!) are the pieces going to be flat??? I'm having a hard time picturing it done with broken bottles unless the pieces are small, I have never used glass from bottles (I have a tumbler I could break some and try it I guess!!!!) so I'm really green in this area.

Chickee, you are right - the larger the piece, the bigger the curvature. My thoughts are that I will be discerning about each piece but that also, the thinset will be a thicker than normal application to "absorb" those edges.

Glad you got the photo of the drawing back in this thread -- I hadn't seen your other thread. That is going to be an incredible project.

Have you checked with a pool building or repair for the thinset you ned? That sounds like something they might use. My other approach would be to contact the manufacturer directly and find out how to get it. They should have a list of suppliers for it.
