Ok, time for edumacation...what, exactly is Chanukkah, and how do you celebrate it? I just have never known anything about the holiday, except that it is the Jewish Holiday, but I don't know what it IS...

You're not ignorant, and I'm happy to explain.

Chanukah is a minor holiday for us. Most people think otherwise because it falls during the Christmas season.

Basically it is the celebration that stems from our victory for the right to religious freedom over an oppressive Syrian king, and the Jews regained their temple.

Once we recovered our temple there was only enough pure oil to keep the menorah lit to last for 1 day, but it lasted for 8. Which was the time it took to get more pure oil for the temple menorah.

So the holiday commemorates the miracle of the oil, not the military victory.
