Best Entry Door Red

I'm going tomorrow to look for a nice red to paint my front door. The front entry way is recessed a bit and I'd like it to be a brighter red (not fire engine) as opposed to a dark brown red. Not really into the orangy reds either. I've purchased a 3/4 light door so the whole door won't be solid red. Also, would it be wise to just paint the interior side white? I was thinking about paining it black as I have a black mantle on the opposite wall. However, I'm preparing the house to sell and think white might sit well with more potential buyers. I can easily get to Benjamin Moore, Sherwin Williams and Home Depot (Behr). Would appreciate any suggestions....have tons to do in the next week before listing and this decision is making me nuts.

I vote for Apple Polish Red by Behr for the outside front door. My hubby brought home lots of red paint samples, I took them to work and got opinions from my coworkers, narrowed it down to about 3 and this is what I picked. After the first coat, I thought I picked the wrong shade but after 3 coats the door is beautiful. I didn't want a maroon shade or a bright red or a brownish red either. Maybe for the inside, I'd go for white.

BM cottage red is classic - not sure if it is bright enough for what your are seeking - but you could check it out

Behr Cinnamon Cherry is a beautiful red...has a HINT of plum to it.

I was looking at BM's Cottage Red. While it IS a very pretty color, I'm thinking it's not quite bright enough (at least on my monitor). So far, my favorite color on the computer is Behr's Ruby Ring. Off to the store in a few. Hope I like it as much in person. Thanks for the suggestions!!

    bleigh,
I have BM Cottage red on my front door and I love it but I do not think it would be for you because it is not a bright cheery red it definately is a brownish red.

Went to Home Depot earlier and Martha Stewart's "Barn" is the perfect red for my door. I thought this was going to be painful and stressful, but so far it's the easiest choice yet : ). Now, I'm just praying I don't have to put on 5 coats!!

We have painted a door red in the past, and the painter used a blue primer... might check that out? So glad you found what you were looking to do

I also wanted to suggest using tinted primer. I saw somewher on TV (HGTV?) that they used a dark grey primer which cut down on the # of coats.

We had our DR painted a dark red and it took 4 coats - the painter was not happy!

I love that MS "Barn". It's a great color!

Dawn, thank you for agreeing on the color!! I'm so excited to see how it looks when the new door is installed. Is it crazy to be excited about a door?? Hopefully it will be all complete by early next week. I will definitely ask about using a darker primer before painting. The door I purchased is pre-primed white. I painted my kitchen red and it took 6 coats. I don't blame your painter for being ill after 4 coats, but he/she should have known better :)...umm that is if the painter was a hired professional and not your DH or BF.
