Beautiful! I love how you incorporated the pebbles, etc on the base. Such a great gift.
If you are talking about TileLab as a sealer, the high gloss isn't really. It just adds a nice finish to your grout. You need to wipe the glass clean after you apply the sealer.

Just the cutest thing! He is so real looking...I had to look twice. I LOVE the base too.... How unique and fun.

Yes... he was fun to do, Hazie. I had enjoyed finding things to put in the sand/base that the kids might get a kick out of.
Shades... I bought him at KMart... $9.99. Decided yesterday that I wanted to do one for us so went back but they were out. So I went to the Sears Essential that took over some of the Kmarts in our area and found them on sale for 50% off! I just HAD to buy a couple more! :)

Kate that is just too adorable...I love all the mixed media and how you turned the tiles upside down around the edge to get the bevel, I first thought it was beads. The base is really cool too...you did a wonderful job!!!

Well, isn't he a handsome dude! FIDDLE - I LOVE him, and thanks for copying my idea. Yours is better. Like how you embedded the key and nail. I didn't think of putting in a key. I see you have a little shell w/MULTIPLE pearls. Didn't you just LOVE doing the ground? I also like your border on the shell - those BBs are great w/the backs of the tiles. All in all, this is a real work of art. Hey, I must've missed you posting the finish of your sailboat. That is OUTSTANDING. They pics say "ungrouted". You mean to tell me you haven't grouted that beauty YET??? Get crackin', girlie. Now that you are a grouting pro, get on w/it. It's WONDERFUL.

All your ideas are so clever. Your DD and future SIL will love it. Everytime I look again, I see something different. As far as sealer, same as d3bbi, I've used a couple of different kinds and it all needs to be wiped off the glass or it leaves a slight cloudy/distortion. Don't know how you plan to put it on but I like to spray to get down in all the smaller places.

SLOW... I used ball chain for the edge.. can't remember who discussed it first.. but I really like the way it lays in so easily! Yes.. LOVED gushing on that thinset and pushing things into it! What fun!
ANNIE... yup.. just slathered on the thinset and pushed in the stones and things... no grout needed I figured and I liked the rough look of it compared to the shell.
BRENDAK.. he is all one piece. I'll take a picture of the new one that is undecorated tomorrow.
Sailboat.... Thanks for the comments. Yes, I finally finished the mosaic part but wanted to do a smaller piece with grout before I tackle the boat. It's going to be black... except maybe for the very top of the sail where all of the glass is white... still considering that. Glad for suggestions! Also... now that I read MaryMary saying she's had problems grouting sea glass I'm thinking about NOT grouting the very bottom. More comments welcome!
